Giant fibroids are known to arise from the uterus, and very rarely from the broad ligament. Large fibroids often undergo hyaline, cystic, and at times, red degeneration. In the present case, cystic degeneration with intervening septations in an adnexal mass raised the suspicion of ovarian neoplasm as the ovaries were not seen as separate from the lesion. Septate uterus can be responsible for such infertility as requires surgical treatment. This series of this kind of uterine malformation in 37 cases makes it possible to evaluate the efficacy of a new technique for correction of the septum. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective clinical analysis of 157 consecutive women who underwent surgery during a 25-year period. One hundred fifty-seven patients with a subseptate, septate or bicornuate uterus and history of recurrent abortions (124 cases) or infertility (33 cases) were included in this study. Operative technique was similar to the procedure first described by Bret and Guillet and by Tompkins.

A hysterosalpingogram revealed a septate uterus in a 29 year old nulliparous woman with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss. Fifteen women with müllerian defects and a control population of 15 with normal müllerian systems underwent dynamic audiometric testing.
