BACKGROUND: To assess the outcome of routine trabectomy surgery in the treatment of primary (POAG) and secondary open angle glaucoma.
PATIENTS/METHODS: 296 eyes of 296 patients with diagnosed open angle glaucoma and exfoliative glaucoma were analysed from June 2012 until June 2014. IOP readings (intraocular pressure) and the number of antiglaucoma medications was evaluated at every follow-up visit. PURPOSE: To describe a case of postoperative trabeculectomy-induced corneal astigmatism treated with femtosecond laser-assisted astigmatic keratotomy.
METHODS: After trabeculectomy, the patient demonstrated change in manifest refraction from -0.5 diopters preoperatively to mixed astigmatism of -3.5 + 5.25@100 postoperatively and a decrease in uncorrected distance visual acuity from 20/60 preoperatively to 20/200 at 1 month postoperatively. We report a case of successful argon laser synechiolysis as a non-invasive alternative for peripheral anterior synechiae release after trabeculectomy in a young patient with steroid-induced ocular hypertension. Steroid-induced ocular hypertension is a known complication of vernal keratoconjunctivitis due to prolonged treatment with steroids. In refractive conditions, augmented trabeculectomy becomes the surgery of choice in these patients. In this article, we report successful treatment of iris tissue plugging the internal ostium with an argon laser and reinstatement of aqueous flow.
