INTRODUCTION: Limbs ischaemia represents a rare event during the neonatal period. The present paper reports an unusual case of precocious arm ischemia that occurred immediately after birth and successfully treated with a peripheral nerve blockade.
CONCLUSIONS: Peripheral nerve blockade resulted in an effective and safe therapeutic approach able to allow the salvaging of the limbs.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an arm sling on balance in patients with, hemiplegia following a stroke. Twenty-six patients with hemiplegia (11 men, 15 women) who had, shoulder subluxation were enrolled in the study. We report a case of a 45-year-old man presenting with asomatognosia, or loss of body part ownership, when he experienced difficulty acknowledging that his arm was his own. His symptoms might easily have been considered to be of psychiatric origin. Instead they turned out to be due to highly focal stroke secondary to carotid dissection, an important and often missed cause of stroke in younger patients.

We administered a record eight ampoules of antivenom over one week to a 55-year-old woman with a red-back spider bite on her chronically lymphoedematous right arm. She had severe local signs of envenomation but relatively little systemic effect. The final antivenom dose, injected subcutaneously at the bite site, had a good effect.

Among a series of 286 cases of acute ischemia of the upper limb, we analyzed the files of 176 patients (61.5%) with noncardiac ischemia in order to identify the causes and treatment. Trauma was the most frequent cause (126 cases) including trauma of the forearm especially due to stab wounds. Lesions with a subclavian-axillary localization were predominantly due to tear wounds or blunt trauma.
