Availability of essential medicines in Pakistan-A comprehensive document analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Access to essential medicines (EMs) is a basic human right. Non-availability and shortages of EMs are reported for Pakistan but there is insufficient data to define the nature and magnitude of this problem. The current study is designed to systematically analyze the medicines included in the National Essential Medicines List (NEML) for their availability through comprehensive document analysis. METHODS: An expanded list of medicinal items was developed using the NEML of Pakistan (2018) to enlist individual medicines with their specifications. Registration status of the medicines

Evolution of Assessment Methods in Narrative Medicine Education:A Historical Overview (2001-2026).

Assessment is a critical link in the transition of narrative medicine education from concept to institutionalized curriculum, yet its methods have long faced challenges such as insufficient standardization, poor cross-institutional comparability, and a lack of long-term outcome tracking, while few studies have traced how this situation arose.Focusing on assessment in the educational measurement sense-the measurement of learners' outcomes,as distinct from the evaluation of programs as a whole-and adopting an abductive approach that infers epistemological foundations from actual assessment practices

The Signature of Moderate Perinatal Hypoxia on Cortical Organization and Behavior: Altered PNN-Parvalbumin Interneuron Connectivity of the Cingulate Circuitries.

This study was designed in a rat model to determine the hallmarks of possible permanent behavioral and structural brain alterations after a single moderate hypoxic insult. Eighty-two Wistar Han (RccHan: WIST) rats were randomly subjected to hypoxia (pO2 73 mmHg/2 h) or normoxia at the first postnatal day. The substantially increased blood lactate, a significantly decreased cytochrome-C-oxygenase expression in the brain, and depleted subventricular zone suggested a high vulnerability of subset of cell populations to oxidative stress and consequent tissue response even after a single, moderate,

The Psychosocial Challenges of Caring for Patients with Ebola Virus Disease.

Caring for highly infectious patients in biocontainment units is a new phenomenon, and little is known about the behavioral health of workers in this setting. This is a qualitative study exploring the unique experiences of workers involved in the care of patients with Ebola virus disease (EVD) at Nebraska Medicine during the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Twenty-one in-depth interviews were conducted focused on topics of personal memories, interpersonal experiences, stress response, and patient management. Five themes were identified: (1) positive experiences were emotional while challenges were technic

The role of hippocampal GABAA receptors on anxiolytic effects of Echium amoenum extract in a mice model of restraint stress.

Echium amoenum (EA), a popular medicinal plant in Persian medicine, has anxiolytic, antioxidant, sedative, and anti-inflammatory effects. This study examined whether GABA-ergic signaling is involved in the anxiolytic effects of EA in mice. Sixty BALB/c mice (25-30 g) were divided into six groups (n = 10) as follows: the (I) control group received 10 ml/kg normal saline (NS). In the stress groups, the animals underwent 14 consecutive days of restraint stress (RS), and received following treatments simultaneously; (II) RS + NS; (III) RS + Diaz (Diazepam); (IV) RS + EA; (V) RS + Flu (Flumazenil)

Behavioral Structure, Activity Rhythm and Relationships to the Conservation and Welfare of Tibetan Fox in Tibet Plateau of China.

As a keystone species in alpine ecosystems, the Tibetan fox (Vulpes ferrilata) plays an important role in maintaining ecological processes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Understanding its behavioral structure, activity rhythm, and responses to road-related human disturbance is essential for effective conservation and management. This study was conducted in the Tangbei Area of Sanjiangyuan National Park from May to December 2024 using infrared camera trapping. In total, 1166 effective camera-trap days yielded 748 independent photographs, 340 video clips, and 217 valid behavioral records. An etho

Development of a questionnaire to identify ocular torticollis.

Ocular disease is one of the causes of abnormal head positioning. Conventionally, the behavioral characteristics of ocular torticollis patients are different from those of non-ocular torticollis patients, though research addressing the significance of this difference is yet limited. This prospective, cross-sectional study aims to develop a questionnaire based on the clinical features in children with abnormal head posture being ocularly assessed. Children aged ≥ 6 months who visited our rehabilitation medicine clinic with a chief complaint of abnormal head posture were included. Patients with

Advancing towards personalized medicine: Practical specifications for management of treatable traits in patients with COPD exacerbations.

Exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are significantly associated with poor prognosis and impose a substantial socioeconomic burden. As an emerging concept in the field of precision medicine, treatable traits can help identify the characteristics most closely linked to clinical outcomes of the disease, thereby guiding precise treatment. In recent years, research on treatable traits in the context of COPD exacerbations has gradually deepened, covering pulmonary, extrapulmonary, and behavioral-risk aspects. This paper summarizes the research progress of treatable traits

Development of NAMASTE (New Anxiety Management Algorithm Standardizing Treatment Experience) and Implementation in Primary Care.

Evidence-based depression treatment in primary care is well established. However, clinicians are less likely to be trained to diagnose and treat anxiety disorder, which is frequently comorbid, poses an independent risk for suicidality, and complicates disease management. The University of North Carolina's Internal Medicine Clinic developed a measurement-guided approach to identifying and treating anxiety disorder using the seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale, treatment algorithms, medication charts, case-based training for best practices, onsite behavioral counseling, and psychiatric

[Effects of central precocious puberty on physical and sexual development in children].

As abnormal pubertal development, central precocious puberty (CPP) is manifested by the secondary sexual characteristics, skeletal maturation, and physical development in advance. It ultimately affects the adult height of children, even producing some psychological and behavioral problems such as fear and anxiety. Currently, gonadotropin releasing hormone analogue (GnRHa) is recognized as the best medicine worldwide for treating CPP in order to increase children's final adult height; however, it has some adverse effects on the growth and development of children. This paper reviews the effects

Children in Conflict Zones.

The nature of war has changed dramatically. Today's conflicts happen where people live and they take a brutal toll on children. Heavy bombardment and destruction in war creates a humanitarian crisis where there is lack of adequate food, clean water and medicine. The consequences of war can have major impact on the health of children for years to come. Traumatic events can have a profound and lasting impact on the emotional, cognitive, behavioral and physiological functioning of an individual. Depending on the circumstances, the psychosocial impacts of disasters can range from mild stress react

Epigenetic Regulation in Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy.

Epigenetic modifications play a pivotal role in the regulation of gene expression and cell function, offering potential markers of disease states and therapeutic outcomes. Recent advancements in neuroscience have spurred interest in studying the epigenetic underpinnings of psychosomatic medicine. This review presents a new perspective on the role of epigenetic regulation in the realms of psychosomatics and psychotherapy. The authors first highlight epigenetic patterns associated with prevalent psychosomatic disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, and lichen plan

Autoerotic deaths: report of two unusual cases.

Autoerotic death is a rare but recurring phenomenon in forensic medicine. This article presents two cases of unusual autoerotic death with signs of autoerotic asphyxia. Although the first case appeared to be asphyxia, the autopsy confirmed natural cause of death during solitary sexual activity of 69-year-old man found with exposed and bandaged genitals. The other case was asphyxiation utilizing a plastic bag and multiple panties wrapped around the head of 18-year-old man disguised in women´s dress.

Evidence-Based Non-Pharmacological Therapies for Fibromyalgia.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Fibromyalgia (FM) is the second most common rheumatologic pain disorder after osteoarthritis with a multisystem presentation. While the treatment of FM in a clinical setting incorporates both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic modalities, the present investigation reviews evolving literature on cognitive behavioral and complementary medical therapies. The recent medical literature on FM was reviewed between 2012 and 2017 via MEDLINE and the Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials, with an emphasis on randomized controlled trials, meta-analyses, and evidence-based tre

[Are there specific factors in the psychotherapy of anorexia nervosa?].

The present literature review examines the question of how general and specific factors can be differentiated in the psychotherapy of anorexia nervosa. Over the past 10 years different research trends have appeared. On the one hand subclassifications of new therapy approaches from several schools of therapy have been propagated (e.g. CBT-E, FPT), on the other hand generic treatment manuals have been published that are rather adapted to patients needs (e.g. SSCM, TTM). On a third way, currently therapy manuals for special subgroups have been developed, e.g. for chronic patients with anorexia ne

Cognitive-behavioral therapy for social anxiety disorder: supporting evidence and future directions.

The present paper examines the role of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in the treatment of social anxiety disorder (SAD). A cognitive-behavioral model of SAD is first presented. Different modalities of CBT for SAD are then described, including exposure, cognitive restructuring, relaxation training, and social skills training, and evidence supporting their efficacy is reviewed. The comparative and combined impact of CBT and pharmacotherapeutic interventions is also explored. CBT appears to be an efficacious treatment for SAD. However, the overall efficacy CBT may be increased by closer exami
