An 8-year-old castrated male mixed-breed cat presented with an abdominal mass of unknown origin, accompanied by eosinophilia. Autopsy revealed mild-to-severe enlargement of lymph nodes throughout the body and multiple nodules in the lungs. We describe an atypical case of subacute thyroiditis affecting a 50 year old patient with long lasting fever, weight loss, malaise and a high erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Cytological examination of the thyroid gland showed the classic granulomas with giant cells. However, the patient had neither painful enlargement of the gland nor thyrotoxicosis. INTRODUCTION: Patients affected by metastatic germ cell tumors may occasionally experience enlargement of masses with concurrent normalization of tumor markers during or after chemotherapy. This phenomenon is described as growing teratoma syndrome (GTS). Polycystic kidney diseases (PKD) are the most common hereditary diseases of the human kidney and account for ten per cent of patients requiring renal transplantation or dialysis. Renal cyst formation has been attributed to enhanced cell proliferation, unbalanced cell death, abnormal targeting of membrane proteins, aberrant kidney development and tubular obstruction, but there is no treatment that blocks the formation and enlargement of renal cysts. We have now developed an in vitro model of spontaneous cyst formation that distinguishes polycystic kidney epithelium from its normal counterpart.

The dynamic evolution of indolent γδT-cell clones in Felty syndrome (FS) and their relationship with progressive splenomegaly remain unclear.
