It would be really great if I had greater confidence and ability there: Understanding the primary care physician experience with nutrition in training, clinical practice, and interprofessional collaboration.

BACKGROUND: Primary care physicians (PCPs) are on the front lines of health promotion and disease prevention, yet evidence supports a longstanding gap in physicians' capacity to counsel about diet, a key factor in patient health and chronic disease risk. Momentum to address the nutrition training needs of physicians is growing; however, challenges PCPs experience due to inadequate training are further complicated by clinical practice barriers. This study seeks to better understand the complex problem PCPs face addressing nutrition with patients to inform potential solutions. METHODS AND FINDI

Academic partnerships with clinical nurse scientist mentors improve the Doctor of Nursing Practice student experience.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree has become firmly established as the terminal practice degree for advanced practice registered nurses in the United States. A defining component of the DNP curriculum requires students to implement a scholarly project that addresses a clinical problem and improves patient or system outcomes. This article describes the development and implementation of a structured clinical-academic partnership between a university-based DNP nurse anesthesia program and a pediatric health care organization in the southeastern United States. Central to this collaborati

Three days inside: exploring reciprocity and trust in a participatory action research community case study in the Netherlands.

Traditional scientific research has produced valuable knowledge, yet its linear, top-down logic often fails to address the complexity of local communities. This results in a gap between knowledge and action, where interventions lack legitimacy and impact. Participatory Action Research (PAR) has emerged as an alternative, bringing residents, professionals, and researchers together in iterative cycles of action and reflection. The promise of PAR lies not only in its methods but in the attitudes and relationships that underpin it. This community case study explores how reciprocity, understood as

Reputation-based nonlinear investment promotes cooperation in networked N-player trust games.

Trust underpins large-scale cooperation, yet it remains fragile among self-interested individuals. Trust games provide a classic framework for studying the evolutionary dynamics of trustworthy and untrustworthy behaviors under asymmetric payoff structures. However, in most existing trust-game models, investment rules are based on equal or linear allocation, failing to incentivize and constrain the behaviors of trustees effectively. To address this gap, we propose a reputation-based investment allocation mechanism in a networked N-player trust game. In this framework, individual behavior shapes

Better Healthcare Together: Co-Designing a Framework for Health Service Co-Design.

INTRODUCTION: Co-design in health services is increasingly recognised as essential for creating services and policies that address patient and community needs. However, genuine co-design can be challenging, with existing toolkits often catering to professionals, reinforcing power imbalances and limiting community leadership. This paper aims to present a novel co-design framework for health services and describe the co-design process taken in its development. METHODS: The co-design process involved a series of engagement activities (online forums, focus groups, discussions and workshops) with

Introduction : With the growing expansion of participatory approaches in health, an increasing number of training initiatives have been developed to support these practices (Tourette-Turgis et al., 2019). However, these initiatives remain heterogeneous in their formats, objectives, and target audiences, reflecting a lack of consensus on what constitutes participatory approaches in practice (Paulo et al., 2023). Purpose of the research : This study aims to explore French-speaking training programs that foster collaboration among researchers, health professionals, and citizens.

The Largest Program for Opioid Use Disorder in a Statewide Carceral System: A Collaborative Multi-Agency Initiative.

Policy Points The government has a key role in ensuring equitable and just health care access for all constituents, including those involved with the criminal legal system. Multi-agency collaboration is a critical and effective path to ensure equitable health care access. Incarceration events can cause delays and disruptions in substance use disorder treatment, and treatment in carceral settings can prevent these adverse outcomes. Multi-agency collaborations can be strengthened by legislation, leadership support, the identification of shared goals, methods to share data, and subsequent account

Gradual reputation dynamics evolve and sustain cooperation in indirect reciprocity.

Humans have achieved widespread cooperation, largely sustained by mechanisms such as indirect reciprocity, which relies on reputation and social norms. People are highly motivated to maintain a good reputation, and social norms play a critical role in reputation systems by defining acceptable behavior, helping prevent exploitation by free-riders. However, there is a gap between theory and experiment in handling reputation information, with experiments often failing to capture the complexity that theoretical models propose. Here, we address two key issues: what kind of information is needed to

Clinician-artificial intelligence collaboration: A win-win solution for efficiency and reliability in atrial fibrillation diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Given the biases and ethical concerns of AI models, the fully automatic diagnosis of diseases in clinical settings is challenging. In contrast, clinician-AI collaboration is considered essential to ensure the validity and reliability of utilizing AI models in clinical practice. However, effective strategies for clinician-AI collaboration remain largely unexplored. METHODS: This study proposed a three-step general clinician-AI collaboration pipeline aimed at improving disease diagnosis efficiency: first, utilizing large real-world clinical datasets to evaluate and clarify clinician

Cooperation in public goods game does not require assortment and depends on population density.

The threshold public goods game is one of the best-known models of non-linear public goods dilemmas. Cooperators and defectors typically coexist in this game when the population is assumed to follow the so-called structured deme model. In this article, we develop a dynamical model of a general N-player game in which there is no deme structure: Individuals interact with randomly chosen neighbours and selection occurs between randomly chosen pairs of individuals. We show that in the deterministic limit, the dynamics in this model leads to the same replicator dynamics as in the structured deme mo

Whole community planning: building resiliency at the local level.

Business continuity planning often looks to preserving internal operations and focuses on customer retention as a marker for a successful outcome after a disaster. Building more resilient continuity plans also means planning for the survival of the community at large. As the national emphasis in the USA on 'whole community planning' becomes prominent guidance for emergency management planning, this paper examines the implications for businesses as members of the whole community and how they can increase their involvement in the whole community process. The paper will also discuss the impedimen

Calibration of Ph. Eur. BRP batch 4 for oral poliomyelitis vaccine (OPV).

Poliomyelitis (polio) is a highly infectious disease that affects mostly young children and which may lead to paralysis and death. Prevalence of polio has considerably decreased. However, the effort of global eradication through immunisation needs to be continued to prevent infection risks in non-vaccinated populations by wild, as well as vaccine-derived, polioviruses. In addition, the stockpile of oral poliomyelitis vaccine (OPV) must be maintaine for emergency cases even after eradication. To this end relevant reference standards must be available for the quality control (QC) of polio vaccin

[Disaster relief through inter-professional collaboration --from the standpoint of a dietitian].

The present study examined disaster relief efforts by registered and other dietitians following the Great East Japan Earthquake to identify related problems. Based on this, the study discussed what is required to develop a "disaster relief system through inter-professional collaboration" to cope with unanticipated disasters. On March 15, 2011, the Japan Dietetic Association (JDA) independently established the "Great East Japan Earthquake relief emergency headquarters". The association along with these volunteers was committed to the establishment of a system for disaster relief activities with

The role of support groups and stuttering therapy.

Support groups for individuals who stutter provide an opportunity for consumers to incorporate emerging or newly learned fluency skills in speaking situations outside of the speech-language clinic. One major theme of this article is to promote the idea that support groups can be utilized by clinicians and consumers as an important adjunct to fluency therapy. In addition to addressing feelings and attitudes associated with stuttering, the supportive environment of such groups serves to provide individuals who stutter with opportunities to work on improved communication skills with several diffe

Beliefs about others' intentions determine whether cooperation is the faster choice.

Is collaboration the fast choice for humans? Past studies proposed that cooperation is a behavioural default, based on Response Times (RT) findings. Here we contend that the individual's reckoning of the immediate social environment shapes her predisposition to cooperate and, hence, response latencies. In a social dilemma game, we manipulate the beliefs about the partner's intentions to cooperate and show that they act as a switch that determines cooperation and defection RTs; when the partner's intention to cooperate is perceived as high, cooperation choices are speeded up, while defection is
