Erythema multiforme after use of topical dorzolamide.

Erythema multiforme may be a mild condition (erythema multiforme minor), or it may be a severe, possibly life-threatening condition (erythema multiforme major or Stevens-Johnson syndrome). Dorzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, which reduces intraocular pressure by suppressing aqueous production. In this paper we report on a patient who developed erythema multiforme following the use of topical dorzolamide.

[Erythema multiforme majus and Chlamydia pneumoniae infection].

BACKGROUND: Erythema multiforme majus of infectious origin is an acute eruptive syndrome seen more commonly in young subjects and characterised by an appearance of round target lesions. In most cases, it is associated with infection involving Herpes simplex virus or Mycoplasma pneumoniae. We report an original case of erythema multiforme majus subsequent to infection with Chlamydia pneumoniae. CASE REPORT: An 18 year-old man was hospitalised for management of generalised skin rash comprising lesions in rings, associated with bullous and post-bullous lesions, chiefly in the oral (preventing ea…

Mucosal disease series. Number IV. Erythema multiforme.

Erythema multiforme (EM) is an acute mucocutaneous hypersensitivity reaction characterised by a skin eruption, with or without oral or other mucous membrane lesions. Occasionally EM may involve the mouth alone. EM has been classified into a number of different variants based on the degree of mucosal involvement and the nature and distribution of the skin lesions. EM minor typically affects no more than one mucosa, is the most common form and may be associated with symmetrical target lesions on the extremities. EM major is more severe, typically involving two or more mucous membranes with more …

Disseminated granuloma annulare following erythema multiforme minor.

A 44-year-old woman presented with erythema multiforme minor followed by disseminated granuloma annulare 4 weeks later. The patient was not taking any medication and had no history of herpes simplex infection. Involvement of a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction in the pathogenesis of these two well known disorders, as suggested by immunological investigations, may explain their concurrence in our patient. The substitution of the erythema multiforme minor lesions by an eruption of disseminated granuloma annulare at the same sites suggests the possibility of a Koebner phenomenon or an isotop…

Erythema multiforme associated with superficial fungal disease.

An extremely rare case of erythema multiforme associated with dermatophytosis by Trichophyton rubrum infection was reported in a 19-year-old woman. She had a reddish plaque resembling annular ringworm on her left arm. Treatment with an antifungal cream (clotrimazole) on the infected site cleared the condition in three weeks. Spontaneous regression of erythema multiforme in different parts of the body was recognized when the ringworm infection resolved. In recent years, only two cases have been reported in the English literature.
