Serendipitous diagnosis of protein S deficiency.

A 46-year-old male sought periodontal care for a swelling on his right mandibular gingiva. An excisional biopsy revealed a well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Surgical treatment consisted of a right segmental mandibulectomy with ipsilateral right neck dissection and fibular free flap reconstruction. Two days after the surgical procedure, a weakened Doppler signal suggested vascular compromise of the graft. The patient was returned to the operating room where complete thrombosis of the internal jugular vein (recipient vessel) was observed. This event prompted a complete hematological e

Evaluation of retention of TiTach versus ball and socket attachments used in mandibular implant-retained overdentures: a comparative in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: For the edentulous mandible, removable prostheses that are held in place by implants are great solutions because they offer good retention with various attachments. A novel attachment system that supports an alternative kind of connection is called TiTach. Few studies have investigated this type of attachment. This study compared the retention of TiTach attachments with ball and socket attachments used for overdentures retained by mandibular implants. METHODS: Two ready-made epoxy models were used representing the edentulous mandible and two implants at the canine site with zero i

Conical Telescopic Overdenture in Geriatric with Weak Upper Extremities: A Rare Case Report.

Conical telescopic overdentures have a self-centering insertion path, which differs from parallel-walled telescopic designs. This biomechanical characteristic minimizes lateral stresses on abutment teeth, which may allow for better prosthesis placement in patients with upper extremity weakness. A 69-year-old female patient presented with concerns regarding the poor condition of her remaining teeth (15, 14, 13, 25, 33, and 41) and requested prosthodontic rehabilitation while preserving the existing dentition. Clinically, the patient reported weakness in her upper extremities, with difficulties

Implant-supported Oral Rehabilitation in Child with Ectodermal Dysplasia - 4-year Follow-up.

Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) is an anomaly determined by genetic factors that alter ectodermal structures such as skin, hair, nails, glands, and teeth. Children affected by this condition require extensive, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary treatment. An 8-year-old female patient visited the Dentistry Clinic of the Federal University of Santa Catarina with the chief complaint of multiple missing teeth. The mother reported that the patient had ED. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed the congenital absence of several primary and permanent teeth and tooth germs. Subsequent oral rehabil

Managing An Unexpected Cemento-Dentinal Tear with a 3D-printed Crown Generated Chairside: A Case Report with 2 years Follow Up.

A 65-year-old Caucasian female was seen for the treatment of a failing mandibular fixed dental prosthesis (FDP). When the abutment teeth were evaluated, tooth 44 had an extensive carious lesion and was determined non-restorable, and tooth 47 was deemed salvageable. The patient presented and accepted a treatment plan involving the extraction of tooth 44, a three-unit zirconia implant-supported FDP to replace teeth 44,45, and 46, and a zirconia crown for tooth 47. At the time of insertion, when the interim restoration covering tooth 47 was removed, the cementum and dentin of the tooth separated

Mixed-Pattern Ameloblastoma of the Anterior Mandible: A Rare Histopathological Presentation at an Infrequent Location.

Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor of epithelial origin that exhibits a locally aggressive behavior with a high level of recurrence and multiple factors involved in its molecular pathogenesis. This article is a case report of a 46-year-old male patient suffering from a progressively enlarging tumor of the anterior mandible that caused gradual expansion of the lingual cortical plate and root displacement without resorption of the involved teeth. Incisional biopsy was consistent with "conventional" ameloblastoma, showing a mixed pattern of both the follicular and acanthomatous subtypes.

Mandibular premolar transplantation to replace missing maxillary anterior teeth: A multidisciplinary approach.

One of the most challenging problems for orthodontists is that of multiple missing maxillary teeth in a growing patient. In many patients, a good treatment option is autotransplantation. This case report describes the multidisciplinary treatment of an 11-year-old girl with regional odontodysplasia affecting the maxillary right and left central incisors, and congenitally missing maxillary left lateral incisor and canine. Autotransplantation of the mandibular second premolars to the affected area was combined with orthodontic space closure, and the transplanted premolars were reshaped and restor
