PURPOSE: To report a case of sudden, severe, unexplained, bilateral loss of vision after glaucoma filtration surgery in both eyes; the vision returned 2 months later.
METHODS: The clinical records of the patient were reviewed retrospectively. Observations were made and collated as the case progressed.

PURPOSE: To describe a 79-year-old Caucasian male with a history of hypotony maculopathy for 7 years after cataract extraction with subsequent recovery of normal intraocular pressure and improvement of visual acuity.
METHODS: Interventional case report. The patient developed an intraocular pressure ranging from 0 to 5 mm Hg after cataract surgery. He developed hypotony maculopathy, and the visual acuity declined to 20/200. On evaluation 7 years later, a superior cyclodialysis cleft was detected and treated with the argon laser.

This prospective study assessed visual results and subjective rehabilitation after cataract surgery in eyes with a preoperative acuity of 0.4 (20/40) or better. Fifty eyes (50 patients) were entered in the study. Corrected and uncorrected visual acuity, lens opacity, glare disability, and contrast sensitivity were measured before surgery and four months after surgery. Patient satisfaction was also measured. Best corrected visual acuity was 0.54 +/- 0.12 before surgery and 0.95 +/- 0.15 four months after surgery. Uncorrected visual acuity was 0.24 +/- 0.18 before and 0.58 +/- 0.27 after surgery

BACKGROUND: In June of 1999, an initial study reported on the effect of differing treatment modalities in improving visual acuity and stereoacuity in patients with unilateral refractive amblyopia. This study reports on the patients' visual maintenance of acuity gains for each specified treatment modality. Patients were re-evaluated over a 1- to 2-year period after cessation of treatment.

During a one-year period, 31 trabeculectomies were done in 25 patients. Of these procedures, 27 (87%) were done for chronic open angle glaucoma, three (10%) for congenital glaucoma, and one for chronic open angle glaucoma in an aphakic patient. Our overall success rate was 87%. Complications were few: only two of 31 flat anterior chambers persisted postoperatively. Visual acuity dropped significantly (two lines on the Snellen visual acuity chart) in only one patient.
