This article describes optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings in patients with central retinal artery occlusion by conducting a retrospective review of two cases. Central retinal artery occlusion shows a distinct pattern on OCT images. In the acute phase, OCT images demonstrate the increased reflectivity and thickness of the inner retina and a corresponding decrease of reflectivity in the outer layer of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium/choriocapillaris layer. Follow-up OCT images demonstrate a decrease in the reflectivity and thickness of the inner retinal layers and a correspond

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a new, non-invasive method for investigating biological tissue, with a beam penetration of up to 3 mm. In this study, OCT was used on porcine and human larynxes. The porcine vocal folds were assigned to defined areas and examined by OCT followed by traditional histomorphological analysis. We were able to validate this new method by demonstrating that both OCT and the histological assays showed a clear demarcation of the epithelium mucosae from the deeper layers. OCT application to human vocal folds delivered same results. The current standard procedure for

BACKGROUND: Measurements of upper airway size and shape are important in investigating the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and in devising, applying, and determining the effectiveness of treatment modalities. We describe an endoscopic optical technique (anatomic optical coherence tomography, aOCT) that provides quantitative real-time imaging of the internal anatomy of the human upper airway.
METHODS: Validation studies were performed by comparing aOCT- and computed tomography (CT)-derived measurements of cross-sectional area (CSA) in (1) conduits in a wax phantom and (2) the

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a novel technique that allows cross-sectional imaging of the anterior and posterior eye. OCT has a resolution of approximately 10 microns, with extremely high sensitivity (approximately 10(-10) of incident light). OCT is analogous to computed tomography, which uses x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, which uses spin resonance, or B-scan ultrasound, which uses sound waves, but OCT uses only light to derive its image. OCT is a noncontact, noninvasive system by which retinal substructure may be analyzed in vivo. OCT is useful in the evaluation of retinal path

Background and Objectives: Despite the growing number of new research publications, normative references for children's optical coherence tomography (OCT) parameters are still not completed. We chose to explore this topic because of the lack of normative parameters that is due to an improvement in different technologies and instruments. Our aim was to determine referential rates of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and flow deficits (FD%) in the macular choriocapillaris (CC) in normal eyes of ophthalmologically healthy children. Materials and Methods: Ophthalmologically healthy 8- to

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association of asymptomatic optic nerve demyelinating lesion in patients presenting a clinically isolated syndrome with the asymptomatic retinal neuro-axonal loss previously reported at clinically isolated syndrome. We prospectively recruited 66 patients presenting a clinically isolated syndrome and 66 healthy control subjects matched according to age and gender. All patients underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging including 3D-double inversion recovery (DIR) sequence, optical coherence tomography examination and visual function evaluation, at 2.5-4.5

Glaucoma-related retinal imaging using frequency domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) has become an important but not the only basis for the diagnosis and follow-up of glaucoma. The circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and the macular ganglion cell thickness are two commonly used structural parameters in glaucoma. Their diagnostic efficacy is similar, but each has different influencing factors. Clinically, these two parameters should be analyzed together to improve the specificity and sensitivity for detecting glaucomatous optic nerve damage. Recently, there have been quite
