A patient came with left-side temporomandibular arthralgia, limited mandibular opening, frontal facial asymmetry, and a significant anterolateral open bite. Severe alterations in the occlusal and maxillofacial anatomy resulted from an osteochondroma associated with the mandibular condyle. We describe the changes associated with extirpation of the mandibular condylar osteochondroma and subsequent orthodontic treatment. These clinical changes resulted in improved facial symmetry and a satisfactory functional occlusion.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate results after carotid body tumor (CBT) surgery using a novel dissection technique.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of all operated CBT in the last 6 years was carried out and results were compared with the current literature and our previous series, which reported another 111 cases operated on until 2005.
RESULTS: Forty-five CBTs were removed in 41 (56% hereditary cases) patients (seven Shamblin I, 22 II, and 16 III). There were no cases of permanent cranial nerve injury or stroke. These pre- and postoperative results compare favorably with our previous series and a

This clinical report describes the treatment of an edentulous patient who had undergone resection of an acoustic neurinoma and subsequently developed neurological problems. A replacement maxillary denture combined with a mandibular denture placed in the neutral zone was selected as the treatment of choice. A simple procedure for recording the neutral zone is presented.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is characterized by the formation of tumors in multiple organs and is caused by germline mutation in one of two tumor suppressor genes, TSC1 and TSC2. As for other tumor suppressor gene syndromes, the mechanism of somatic second-hit events in TSC tumors is unknown. We grew fibroblast-like cells from 29 TSC skin tumors from 22 TSC subjects and identified germline and second-hit mutations in TSC1/TSC2 using next-generation sequencing. BACKGROUND: Joubert syndrome (JS) belongs to the ciliopathies and is a mostly autosomal recessively inherited disease (in the case of OFD1 mutations, JS is an X-linked trait). It is characterised by midbrain-hindbrain malformations with developmental delay, hypotonia and ataxia and a broad spectrum of other facultative findings. PURPOSE: The effect of transient tumor expansion after conventionally fractionated stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT) on the symptomatic outcomes is not well-known.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: This study enrolled 201 consecutive patients who received SRT for vestibular schwannoma. A conventional fractionation schedule was applied in 194 patients (97%), and 142 (71%) received a total dose of 50 Gy. The median follow-up time was 72 months.

Computed tomography is an important diagnostic procedure in evaluation of the pediatric patient with an abnormal cranial size and (or) shape. Differential diagnosis of cranial abnormalities based on two hundred and thirty-one computed tomograms is presented. It allows accurate assessment of ventricular size, cerebrospinal fluid pathways, brain substance, and calvarium. Frequently the abnormality demonstrated is so specific that an etiologic diagnosis is made.

OBJECTIVE: We have developed a myocutaneous flap for full thickness reconstruction with a functioning muscle.
TECHNIQUE: In all patients, the submandibular artery was outlined using computerized tomographic angiography and Doppler. The flap was designed after resection. The first lobe was designed to fill the defect and was outlined 90° from the defect margin, with the submandibular artery in the center of the flap. A second lobe was then outlined 90° from the first lobe.
