Laryngeal and endobronchial cryptococcosis are rare conditions, and to our knowledge, there have been only 23 cases of laryngeal cryptococcosis, and 18 cases of endobronchial cryptococcosis previously reported in the English literature. We herein report an extremely rare case of cryptococcosis with simultaneous laryngeal and endobronchial involvement. This case highlights the importance of paying close attention to possible occurrence of cryptococcosis of the airway tract in patients with asthma treated with high-dose inhaled corticosteroids.

INTRODUCTION: Iatrogenic tracheobronchial injuries are rare.
AIM: To analyse the mechanism of injury, symptoms and treatment of these patients.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective analysis of hospital records of all patients treated for main airway injuries between 1990 and 2012 was performed.

The trachea and main bronchi of a supine patient in a magnetic resonance (MR) scanner are not contained in a single standard coronal plane, but instead intersect this coronal plane at some angle, usually 20 degrees - 35 degrees. The article presents results of examination and treatment of patients with foreign bodies in the tracheobronchial tree. It was noted that clinical manifestations were not leading in diagnosis of aspirated foreign bodies. The X-ray diagnosis is also not sufficiently effective, especially in cases with organic foreign bodies. Fiber bronchoscopy was used in 45 patients for diagnosis and removal of foreign bodies from the tracheobronchial tree. Tuberculosis of the large bronchi (TLB) was diagnosed by rigid bronchoscopy (RBS) in 9.4% and by fibrobronchoscopy (FBS) in 18.3% of patients. Such great differences are attributable to the extension of a visualization area during FBS than during RBS. Analyzing the specimens obtained at bronchoalveolar lavage and other types of biopsy of TLB areas cytologically and histologically confirmed the visual picture in 63.4% of cases.

Microbiological examination of sputum specimens is of limited value and may give misleading results.
