Evaluation of caries prevention effect of dental dentin remineralization system constructed by biomimetic peptides and NACP: Molecular properties of calcium phosphate composite material NACP.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

This study evaluated the anti-caries effect of the dentin remineralization system constructed by biomimetic peptide and calcium phosphate composite NACP, especially the molecular properties of NACP and its role in dentin remineralization, as well as the effectiveness and biocompatibility of this composite system in promoting dentin remineralization. The influence of DGP polypeptide and NACP bonding system on bonding strength was compared. Then, the NACP+DGP polypeptide system was constructed to evaluate its acid buffering ability and calcium and phosphorus ion release characteristics in vitro.

Microanatomy of incremental growth lines in dental tissues in reindeer Rangifer tarandus.

Counting growth layers in dentine and/or secondary cementum is widely used for age determination in wild mammals but the underlying seasonal changes in the structure and degree of mineralisation of dental tissue have not been well characterised. We embedded first (m1) and second (m2) mandibular permanent molar teeth from a 12-year-old female Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus) in PolyMethylMethAcrylate (PMMA), prepared cut and polished surfaces coated with evaporated carbon and used 20 kV back-scattered electron imaging in a scanning electron microscope (BSE-SEM) to study aspec

Localization and synthesis of type III collagen and fibronectin in human reparative dentine. Immunoperoxidase and immunogold staining.

The injury of dental pulp tissue, following caries, is accompanied by the deposit of a typical hard scar tissue known as reparative dentine which should be regarded as the mineralization of a new organic matrix. Highly purified antibodies were used in combination with immunoperoxidase or immunogold technique at the ultrastructural level to reveal the distribution and synthesis of types I and III collagen and fibronectin elaborated by typical matrix-forming cells in the new tissue. Specific immunoperoxidase labelling, on demineralized teeth, clearly demonstrated that type I collagen represents

A light microscopic study of odontoblastic and non-odontoblastic cells involved in tertiary dentinogenesis in well-defined cavitated carious lesions.

This study examines cellular and microradiographic findings in thin, undemineralized sections of 46 cavitated lesions, that were clinically well-defined with respect to lesion activity and estimated lesion age at extraction time. The progressive stages of surface breakdown ranged from enamel cavitation to larger dentine exposures classified as closed and open lesion environments. Measurements of the following parameters were performed using computerized image processing software: (a) the cytoplasm:nucleus ratio of primary odontoblast cells; (b) the cell:dentinal tubule ratio; (c) the adjacent

Ultrastructure of dentin matrix in heritable dentin defects.

Heritable dentin defects form a group of diseases which exclusively affect dentin among the various dental tissues. While one type is associated with the generalized connective tissue disorder, osteogenesis imperfecta, other types occur as single traits. The clinical manifestations of the dentin defects vary from insignificant to severe enough to cause aesthetical and functional failure of the teeth. Scanning and transmission electron microscopic studies, reviewed in this paper, have markedly clarified the ultrastructure of the aberrant dentin matrix. Both similar and different changes seem to

Variability of clinical dentin substrates.

Clinical trials remain the only conclusive research of dentin adhesive performance, but variables unique to the oral environment may influence the results. Dentin variability is one factor that may account for extreme variations in clinical evaluations. Despite the encouraging results of laboratory studies, clinical trials with adhesive systems have been disappointing. Current adhesives are reported to react with dentin surfaces by chemical and/or micro-mechanical mechanisms. Dentin surfaces, such as cervical abrasions, are subject to intraoral changes and dentin tubules commonly become obtura

Expression of fibroblast growth factor receptor1, -2c, and -3c transcripts in mouse molars after tooth eruption.

A previous study suggested that fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling plays an important role in dentin formation during tooth development. In this study, to examine dentin formation after tooth eruption involving secondary and tertiary dentin, we analyzed the expression patterns and expressing cells of Fgfr1, -2c, and -3c in mouse maxillary first molars (M1). Since it is difficult to recover the mRNAs from mineralized tissues, we tested methods for extraction after fixation and decalcification of teeth. We successfully obtained consistent results with quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) usin

Biologic considerations in the selection and use of restorative materials.

In this article the defense mechanisms of the pulp and pulp reactions to injury were briefly reviewed. Iatrogenic pulp injury was emphasized and guidelines for prevention of such injury were provided. These could be summarized as follows: Never cut dry. Always use a water coolant to prevent heat generation and desiccation of dentin. Use a protective base or liner with materials that are known to be irritating to the pulp (groups II and III) regardless of cavity depth. Use a protective base in all deep cavities where the possibility of a microscopic exposure of the pulp exists, regardless of th

Hypersensitive teeth. Part II: Treatment.

If the hydrodynamic theory for pain transmission were accepted, occlusion of the patent dentinal tubules would appear to be essential for treatment efficacy. There are many compounds with seemingly varied chemical forms that have been shown to be effective. Their exact mode of action however, is not clearly defined because well-designed, nonbiased, and controlled comparison studies between agents are lacking. The various toothpastes may have ingredients that actually occlude patent tubules or they may cause secondary desensitization by irrational or abrasive action. In any pain study, the natu

Scanning electron microscopic investigation of maxillary lateral incisors with a radicular lingual groove.

Fourteen human lateral incisors with a radicular lingual groove were observed under the scanning electron microscope to explore the communications between the groove and the pulp cavity. Observations showed that accessory foramina could be found not only in the groove, but also in the corresponding wall of the pulp cavity and a cross section. A complete lack of closure of the calcified tissues along the groove, allowing for direct connection of the pulp and the periodontium, was not found in these specimens. Therefore, it is suggested that accessory canals are the main way of communication bet

[A study of secondary caries in cast restored teeth].

The purpose of this study was to investigate the state of the natural secondary caries and in vitro artificial secondary caries, associated with cast restorations cemented with zinc phosphate cement, histopathologically. For this study, the method of making and staining ground serial sections of teeth with cemented cast restorations was established. The material consisted of 50 extracted human permanent teeth with cemented cast restorations, and 12 human premolar teeth with in vitro secondary caries produced by the acid-gelatin system (pH 4.0). These specimens were embedded in MMA resin and th

Comparison of human pulp response to total-etch and self-etch bonding agents.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the pulp reactions in terms of pulp inflammation, leakage involving bacteria and reactionary dentin formation to total-etch adhesive, Prime & Bond NT and self-etch adhesive, Xeno III in 2 mm deep class V cavities prepared in human teeth. STUDY DESIGN: 2 mm deep class V cavities were prepared on buccal surface of 40 human premolars. The teeth were randomly divided into two groups based on the application of a total-etch adhesive system, Prime and Bond NT after acid etching or a self-etching adhesive system, Xeno III. The teeth were extracted after 7 and 30 days and prepar

A guide for an anatomically sensitive dentine microsampling and age-alignment approach for human teeth isotopic sequences.

OBJECTIVES: Stable isotope analysis of sequential dentine samples is a potentially powerful method to reveal insights into early life-histories of individuals in the past. Dentine incremental growth structures are complex, however, and current approaches that apply horizontal sectioning of demineralized tooth halves or quarters risk combining multiple growth layers and may include unwanted cementum or secondary dentine. They also require destruction of large parts of a tooth. Here, we present a less destructive and relatively straightforward protocol that reduces damage, increases temporal res

Endodontic Treatment of a Traumatic Tusk Fracture With Exposed Pulp in an Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus).

Tusk fracture in elephants is a common incident often resulting in pulp exposure and pulpitis. Extensive lavage, endodontic therapy, direct pulp capping, or extraction are treatment options. In this report, the successful management of a broken tusk of a juvenile male Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) including morphological analysis of the tusk tip 2 years after surgery are presented. Treatment was carried out under barn conditions and included antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and partial pulpotomy with direct pulp capping. Immediate pain relief was reached. The fractured tusk was preserved
