Some Topical Aspects of the "Sports Heart" Problem (Literature Review). Part I.

The cardiovascular system experiences the greatest overload, morphological and functional changes inelite sport, which in a number of athletes undergoes nonadaptive (pathological) remodeling both functional and morphological. The latter is characterized by certain objective features, including echocardiography indicators, which occupies a special place in sports cardiology. Structural and functional changes beyond the generally accepted norm (pronounced cardiac hypertrophy or dilatation, high arterial hypertension) can be associated with systolic or diastolic myocardial dysfunction and impaire

The Anti-Psoriatic Efficacy and Safety Profile of Topical and Intralesional Methotrexate: A Literature Review.

Methotrexate (MTX) has long been considered the first-line oral systemic pharmacotherapy for psoriasis. The drug has several well-known systemic side effects, such as bone marrow suppression and hepatotoxicity. To avoid them, the use of topical or intralesional administrations of MTX has become an interesting option. With the advent of novel drug delivery systems, especially nanocarriers, the usage of a high-efficacy and safe topical MTX for psoriasis has nearly been attained. This review examined the development, anti-psoriatic efficacy and adverse effects of topical forms of MTX (plain MTX;

Peripheral precocious puberty due to inadvertent exposure to topical oestradiol gel and review of the literature.

IntroductionTopical oestradiol gel is now widely used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT), but the risk of inadvertent secondary transfer to children is under-recognised. While accidental exposure to testosterone gels has been documented, oestradiol gel transfer as a cause of precocious puberty in prepubertal girls is rare.We undertook a 20-year literature review and discuss the case of a 5-year-old girl presented with Tanner stage 3 breast development, pubic hair stage 2, growth acceleration and mood changes. Laboratory evaluation revealed markedly elevated oestradiol levels with suppressed

Quinolone immediate hypersensitivity due to topical ophthalmic preparations: a case report and review of literature.

Ophthalmic quinolone preparations are widely used for the treatment of eye diseases; however, there are only a few reported cases of immediate hypersensitivity due to such medications. Here, we present a case of immediate hypersensitivity induced by an ophthalmic administration of quinolones in a 20-year-old female with bacterial conjunctivitis. The results of skin prick and basophil activation tests suggest that it involved a type Ib reaction associated with Mas-related G-protein coupled receptor X2. The present case cautions us to be aware of quinolone immediate hypersensitivity caused by to

Efficacy of topical ophthalmic drugs in the treatment of dry eye disease: A systematic literature review.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial and complex disease of the ocular surface, with a high prevalence in adults. We systematically reviewed efficacy and safety data from published articles reporting results from prospective, controlled trials of topical ophthalmic drugs for DED. PubMed was searched for articles from January 1997 to October 2017. Twenty-six unique trials investigating 13 ophthalmic drugs were identified, including trials of the approved drugs cyclosporine A, cyclosporine A cationic emulsion, diquafosol, rebamipide and lifitegrast. All identified studies provided level 1 e

Exogenous Cushing's syndrome due to topical corticosteroid application: case report and review literature.

Prolonged use of topical corticosteroids causes systemic adverse effects including Cushing's syndrome and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, which is less common than that of the oral or parenteral route. At least 43 cases with iatrogenic Cushing syndrome from very potent topical steroid usage (Clobetasol) in children and adult have been published over the last 35 years particularly in developing countries. In children group (n = 22), most are infants with diaper dermatitis and two cases who had started topical application at a very early age and died from severe disseminat

Off-Label Use of Topical Ruxolitinib in Dermatology: A Systematic Literature Review and Current Perspectives.

JAK inhibitors are used to treat various inflammatory skin diseases. However, systemic formulations are associated with an increased risk of major adverse events. Ruxolitinib 1.5% cream is a selective topical JAK1 and JAK2 inhibitor, which has recently been approved by EMA and MHRA for treating non-segmental vitiligo, while being FDA-approved for both vitiligo and atopic dermatitis. Recent literature has reported the off-label use of topical Ruxolitinib for several skin conditions, but data are mostly limited to single case reports and series and few prospective studies, with mixed results.
