Parental Emotion Socialization and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation in Adolescents: A Network Analysis.

Parental emotion socialization strategies influence adolescent emotion regulation development. However, there are still doubts about the supportive/unsupportive role of each strategy. This may be likely due to limitations of prior research that analyzed these strategies in isolation, without considering their interdependence. This study explored interactive patterns among parental strategies, clarifying which combinations were associated with fewer emotion regulation difficulties. Participants were 503 adolescents (60.8% female; Mage = 14.54; SDage = 1.17). Network and Expected Symptom Activit

Memantine misuse and social networks: A content analysis of Internet self-reports.

PURPOSE: Memantine is a N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist currently used for moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's disease. Although the risk of memantine abuse is very low, other NMDA receptor antagonists, such as phencyclidine and ketamine, are well known to drug users. The purpose of this study was to collect data on social networks in order to identify unexpected forms of memantine abuse. METHOD: A Google Trends search was used to highlight reddit.com as a major source of social discussions about memantine. Self-reported users experiences posted on reddit.com were recorded and sort

Cognitive Variables in Social Anxiety Disorder in Children and Adolescents: A Network Analysis.

Clark and Wells' prominent model of social anxiety disorder (SAD) assumes that cognitive variables such as negative expectations or dysfunctional cognitions play a central role in the symptomatology of SAD. In contrast to adults, it is less clear how well the cognitive model can be applied to children and adolescents. A network analysis with seven nodes was conducted to explore the importance of cognitive variables and their interaction with symptoms of SAD based on N = 205 children and adolescents (8-18 years, M = 11.54 years). Cognitive variables had a high but differential impact within the

The growth and impact of Alzheimer disease centers as measured by social network analysis.

IMPORTANCE: Alzheimer disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with no effective therapies. In 1984, the National Institute on Aging created the first 5 AD centers (ADCs) in an effort to coordinate research efforts into the pathology and treatment of the disease. Since that time, the ADC program has expanded to include 27 centers in major medical schools throughout the United States. A major aim of ADCs is to develop shared resources, such as tissue samples and patient populations, and thereby promote large-scale, high-impact studies that go beyond the capabilities of any single investigat

ESTIMATING CONTACT RATES OF HAWAIIAN MONK SEALS (NEOMONACHUS SCHAUINSLANDI) USING SOCIAL NETWORK ANALYSIS.

Understanding disease transmission dynamics, which are in part mediated by rates and patterns of social contact, is fundamental to predicting the likelihood, rate of spread, impacts, and mitigation of disease outbreaks in wildlife populations. Contact rates, which are important parameters required for epidemiologic models, are difficult to estimate. The endangered Hawaiian monk seal (Neomonachus schauinslandi) may be particularly vulnerable to morbillivirus outbreaks, due to its low abundance, lack of genetic diversity, and history of isolation from mammalian diseases. Morbillivirus epizootics

Use of social network analysis to describe service links for farmers' mental health.

OBJECTIVE: The primary mental health care needs of farmers require that service innovations incorporate rural support workers into a local service network. This component of the FarmLink pilot sought to develop a social network analysis method that would describe local mental health-related human service networks. The purpose is to inform improvements in this network and to serve as a baseline against which such improvements can be evaluated. DESIGN: A pilot survey of rural human service providers who deal with mental health-related issues among farmers about their self-reported links between

Social network-based approaches to HIV testing: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Social network-based testing approaches (SNAs) encourage individuals ("test promoters") to motivate sexual partners and/or those in their social networks to test for HIV. We conducted a systematic review to examine the effectiveness, acceptability and cost-effectiveness of SNA. METHODS: We searched five databases from January 2010 to May 2023, and included studies that compared SNA with non-SNA. We used random-effects meta-analysis to combine effect estimates. Certainty was assessed using the GRADE approach. RESULTS: We identified 47 studies. SNA may increase uptake of HIV test

Network analysis reveals disrupted functional brain circuitry in drug-naive social anxiety disorder.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is a common and disabling condition characterized by excessive fear and avoidance of public scrutiny. Psychoradiology studies have suggested that the emotional and behavior deficits in SAD are associated with abnormalities in regional brain function and functional connectivity. However, little is known about whether intrinsic functional brain networks in patients with SAD are topologically disrupted. Here, we collected resting-state fMRI data from 33 drug-naive patients with SAD and 32 healthy controls (HC), constructed functional networks with 34 predefined regio

The role of AI in combating misinformation: leveraging text mining and social networking analysis.

Misinformation on social media can be a severe threat to social trust, safety, and health of the population, especially in times of an epidemic like the Monkeypox outbreak. This study specifically focuses on a hybrid RoBERTa-GRU architecture designed to capture both contextual semantics and temporal dependencies in social media discourse. This research presents how the combination of text mining and social network analysis enables Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support misinformation detection. The proposal of a hybrid architecture that integrates RoBERTa and GRU-based embeddings in a context

Network analysis of the relationship between social support and quality of life in patients with epilepsy.

BACKGROUND: Identifying important types of social support for patients with epilepsy is valuable to construct an effective system for support in daily life. However, previous studies have been inconsistent in identifying the most important types of social support for better quality of life (QOL) due to the high correlations between the social support factors. The present study employed network visualization analysis to identify the relationships between QOL and types of social support. METHODS: Two hundred and eighty-three patients with epilepsy (age range: 18 to 75 years) completed questionn

A social network analysis of perpetrators of child maltreatment reported by youth in foster care.

OBJECTIVE: Prior research on child maltreatment has focused on distinct features of maltreatment (type, severity, chronicity) important for youth outcomes, yet perpetrators of child maltreatment reported by youth have gone largely unstudied. The present study examines connections between perpetrators, the total number and type of perpetrators reported, and the frequency at which each type of perpetrator was reported across 24 relationship types to provide a foundation for future research seeking to provide comprehensive measurement of perpetrator profiles. METHODS: Data from 503 youth in fost

A Social Network Analysis of HIV Treatment Partners and Patient Viral Suppression in Botswana.

OBJECTIVE: Many national HIV guidelines recommend that health care providers encourage patients to identify a treatment partner from their social network to support antiretroviral therapy adherence. This study examined associations of patient and treatment partner characteristics with patient viral suppression in Botswana. DESIGN: One hundred thirty-one patients [67 (51.1%) virally suppressed and 64 (48.9%) not suppressed] and their treatment partners were recruited for cross-sectional interviews from one HIV clinic. METHODS: Participants completed surveys assessing social network, sociodemo

The role of social support in transdiagnostic symptom networks in affective and psychotic disorders: a cross-sectional and longitudinal network analysis.

Symptoms and psychosocial factors interact dynamically across affective and psychotic disorders, yet longitudinal evidence remains limited. Building on the network theory of psychopathology, this study conceptualizes mental disorders as systems shaped by symptom-environment interactions. Using data from a two-site German cohort (N = 2743), we examined 36 psychopathological symptoms and 11 psychosocial factors using cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses. At baseline, transdiagnostic symptom networks were estimated and compared between patients with affective or psychotic disorders (N = 1569

Cognitive bias modification for social anxiety: a living systematic review and network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive Bias Modification (CBM) is a potentially effective intervention for social anxiety disorder (SAD). However, the relative efficacy of CBM subtypes remains uncertain. METHODS: We co-produced a living systematic review of controlled studies evaluating stand alone CBM in participants with SAD and in non-clinical participants undergoing a social stressor, seeking to triangulate these. Databases were searched until October 2025 and two independent reviewers screened, extracted and critically appraised studies. The primary outcome was reduction in SAD symptoms, but we collected
