Zwitterionic Gel Electrolyte Stabilized Multivalent Tellurium Redox for High-Energy Lithium Batteries.

Lithium batteries based on multivalent chalcogen conversion chemistries offer a promising route toward high-energy, practical energy storage, but their development is impeded by the limited accessibility and instability of high-valence intermediates. Here we report a quasi-solid-state lithium||tellurium battery in which a zwitterionic gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) stabilizes multivalent tellurium redox, enabling reversible six-electron conversion under practical conditions. By embedding LiCl directly into a Te cathode, we establish a Te/LiCl composite that activates the sequential Te2 -/Te0/Te

Solid Electrolyte Interphase Formation in Tellurium Iodide Perovskites during Electrochemistry and Photoelectrochemistry.

Halide perovskites are promising photoelectrocatalytic materials. Their further development requires understanding of surface processes during electrochemistry. Thin films of tellurium-based vacancy-ordered perovskites with formula A2TeI6, A = Cs, methylammonium (MA), were deposited onto transparent conducting substrates using aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition. Thin film stability as electrodes and photoelectrodes was tested in dichloromethane containing tetrabutylammonium PF6 (TBAPF6). Using photoemission spectroscopy, we show that the formation of a solid electrolyte interphase on t

Room-Temperature Intrinsic Ferromagnetic Chromium Tellurium Compounds with Thickness-Tunable Magnetic Texture.

2D ferromagnetic chromium tellurides exhibit intriguing spin configurations and high-temperature intrinsic ferromagnetism, providing unprecedented opportunities to explore the fundamental spin physics and build spintronic devices. Here, a generic van der Waals epitaxial approach is developed to synthesize the 2D ternary chromium tellurium compounds with thicknesses down to mono-, bi-, tri-, and few-unit cells (UC). The Mn0.14 Cr0.86 Te evolves from intrinsic ferromagnetic behavior in bi-UC, tri-UC, and few-UC to temperature-induced ferrimagnetic behavior as the thickness increases, resulting i

In Vitro Evaluation of Tellurium-Based AS101 Compound against Neisseria gonorrhoeae Infectivity.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) is a obligate human pathogen responsible for gonorrhea, one of the most common sexually transmitted infections. The yearly increased multidrug resistance in GC has led to treatment failure clinically, suggesting an urgent need for novel therapy to combat this global health issue. AS101 [ammonium trichloro(dioxoethylene-O,O'-)tellurate], a tellurium-based compound previously used as an immunomodulatory agent, was found to have antimicrobial effects against Klebsiella pneumoniae via a high-throughput drug screening and showed antibacterial activity against Acinetobacte

Doping-Free Monolithic 2D CMOS Logic by Fermi-Level Engineering via Tellurium Buffer-Layer.

2D semiconductors hold great potential for post-Moore complementary-metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. However, the doping-free CMOS logic circuits utilizing identical 2D semiconductors pose a critical challenge in achieving efficient metal-dependent polarity modulation, predominantly due to interface defects and Fermi-level pinning (FLP) caused by metallization-induced chemical interactions. Here, a doping-free CMOS fabrication strategy is reported that employs a tellurium (Te) buffer-layer-assisted thermal deposition of the same metal to enable complementary polarity transport on t

Development of highly sensitive H2O2 redox sensor from electrodeposited tellurium nanoparticles using ionic liquid.

A new, non-enzymatic, low-cost sensor based on tellurium nanoparticles (TeNPs) for the analytical determination of H2O2 has been proposed. An economically viable electrochemical technique was employed for the synthesis of TeNPs based non-enzymatic H2O2 sensor. Thin films of TeNPs were successfully electrodeposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate using [BMIM][Ac] ionic liquid at 90 °C. The effect of deposition potential on the morphology, phase formation, and electrochemical characterisation of nanostructured Te films has been studied. Metallic tellurium for p-type contacts of two-dimensional MoTe2 field-effect transistors.

While significant progress has been made in the fabrication of n-type contacts for two-dimensional field-effect transistors (2D FETs), the development of high-performance p-type counterparts using compatible techniques remains insufficient to realize competitive complementary circuits. Here, we demonstrate the growth of metallic-phase tellurium (m-Te) on MoTe2 via evaporation as an efficient p-type contact. The atomic arrangement at the Te/MoTe2 interface stabilizes m-Te under ambient conditions, forming an atomically sharp van der Waals gap with optimal band alignment and suppressed metal-ind

High-Performance Violet Phosphorene-Based Device via Tellurium Doping-Induced Contact Resistance Reduction.

Two-dimensional materials have attracted much attention in various research fields. The phosphorene structures with various allotropes, another type of elemental 2D materials after graphene, have been demonstrated to have unique optoelectronic and photoelectronic properties. However, an inert environment is required to measure phosphorene-based field effect transistors. The experimentally obtained charge mobility from devices is significantly lower than the intrinsic values due to high contact resistance between phosphorene and electrodes. Here, tellurium atoms have been introduced for the fir

Enhanced photothermoelectric conversion in self-rolled tellurium photodetector with geometry-induced energy localization.

Photodetection has attracted significant attention for information transmission. While the implementation relies primarily on the photonic detectors, they are predominantly constrained by the intrinsic bandgap of active materials. On the other hand, photothermoelectric (PTE) detectors have garnered substantial research interest for their promising capabilities in broadband detection, owing to the self-driven photovoltages induced by the temperature differences. To get higher performances, it is crucial to localize light and heat energies for efficient conversion. However, there is limited rese

Tellurium-induced cognitive deficits in rats are related to neuropathological changes in the central nervous system.

The effects of sodium tellurite 0.1 and 0.4 mg/kg were assessed in the Morris water maze. Two days after treatment rats were tested for acquisition (posttreatment days 3-6) and on seventh day on a spatial retention task. Tellurium treatment was found to cause significant impairment in retention of the spatial learning task. Locomotor disturbances were not the cause of the observed effects. Ultrastructural observations showed neuropathological changes in hippocampus subfields and prefrontal cortex with swelling of synapses, astrocytes and astrocytic processes around the vessels in the cerebral

Van der Waals template-encoded soft epitaxy of tellurium enabled by atomic layer deposition.

Van der Waals (vdW) epitaxy can integrate lattice-mismatched crystals with atomically sharp, pristine interfaces. However, translating this concept to atomic layer deposition (ALD), a standard for low-temperature, layer-by-layer growth, remains challenging because precursors adsorb transiently on chemically inert vdW basal planes, leading to physisorption-limited nucleation and poor crystalline ordering. Here, we introduce diffusion-steered epitaxial ALD (Epi-ALD), redefining vdW surfaces as programmable kinetic-thermodynamic landscapes and demonstrate highly crystalline tellurium at 150°C. Ep

Thickness-driven phase selection for epitaxial helical tellurium on a van der Waals superconductor.

The unique chiral structure and strong spin-orbit coupling of helical Te make it a compelling platform for realizing novel topological quantum phenomena through van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures. However, progress has been hindered by a lack of precise control over the structural phase and interface quality of Te during ultrathin film growth. Here, we demonstrate a robust pathway for synthesizing helical Te on the superconductor NbSe2, governed by a thickness-driven phase selection mechanism. Using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we show that Te initially forms a kinetically trapped si

Green-synthesized tellurium nanoparticles as a multifunctional leather finishing agent: antimicrobial and mechanical enhancement.

Leather is highly susceptible to microbial colonization due to its moisture retention and nutrient-rich structure, which promotes bacterial and fungal growth and compromises hygiene, durability, and user comfort in applications such as footwear and upholstery. In this work, tellurium nanoparticles (TeNPs) were green synthesized through redox reaction using plant extract and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to confirm crystalline phase, particle size, and morphology. The TeNPs were then applied to leather substrates to generate ant

The Klebsiella pneumoniae tellurium resistance gene terC contributes to both tellurite and zinc resistance.

Klebsiella pneumoniae is widely recognized as a pathogen responsible for hospital-acquired infections and community-acquired invasive infections. It has rapidly become a significant global public health threat due to the emergence of hypervirulent and multidrug-resistant strains, which have increased the challenges associated with treating life-threatening infections. Tellurium resistance genes are widespread on virulence plasmids in K. pneumoniae isolates. However, the core function of the ter operon (terZABCDEF) in K. pneumoniae remains unclear. In this study, the multidrug-resistant K. pneu

Size distribution effects of cadmium tellurium quantum dots (CdS/CdTe) immunotoxicity on aquatic organisms.

The increasing use of products derived from nanotechnology has raised concern about their potential toxicity to aquatic life. This study sought to examine the comparative immunotoxicity of capped cadmium sulphide/cadmium telluride (CdS/CdTe) quantum dots (QDs) and possible impact of particle/aggregate size on two bivalves (Mytilus edulis and Elliptio complanata) and a fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The QDs were dispersed in sterile water and fractionated using a series of micro/ultrafiltration membranes of decreasing pore size: 450 nm, 100 nm, 50 nm, 25 nm, 100 kDa (6.8 nm), 30 kDa (4.6 nm), 10 k

Sub-5-Min Ultrafast Growth of Millimeter-Scale-Length Tellurium Nanowires With Broadband Bulk Photovoltaic Response.

Bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) featured by polarization-dependent photoresponse at zero external bias exhibits huge potential for exploiting next-generation photodetectors. However, the BPVE is mainly limited in the wide-bandgap ferroelectrics and complex van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures and scarcely demonstrated in narrow-bandgap vdW semiconductors. Here we develop a surface self-limiting diffusion driven growth strategy to rapidly synthesize millimeter-scale-length narrow-bandgap tellurium (Te) single-crystal nanowires with highly uniform non-centrosymmetric structure. The sub-5-min ult
