Iatrogenic injury during mesiodens extraction may result in severe damage to adjacent teeth and supporting structures, particularly when adequate imaging and surgical planning are lacking. This case report describes the multidisciplinary management of extensive iatrogenic trauma involving the maxillary anterior teeth following surgical removal of a mesiodens. A 28-year-old woman presented with grade II mobility of the maxillary incisors (#12, #11, #21, and #22) six months after mesiodens extraction. Clinical and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) examinations revealed extensive root destruct

BACKGROUND: The success of endodontic therapy depends on thorough biomechanical preparation and the use of effective intracanal irrigants to achieve a microbe-free canal before obturation. Candida albicans is the most commonly isolated fungus from infected root canals and has a strong dentin affinity. Owing to its resistance to several intracanal medicaments, including calcium hydroxide, alternative antifungal agents are required. Bovine milk, which contains caprylic acid - a medium-chain fatty acid with known antimicrobial properties, may provide a natural and biocompatible adjunct for root c

Advances in treatment of tooth injury have shown that tooth regeneration from the pulp was a viable alternative of root canal therapy. In this study, we demonstrated that Gutta-percha, nanocomposites primarily used for obturation of the canal, are not cytotoxic and can induce differentiation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) in the absence of soluble mediators. Flat scaffolds were obtained by spin coating Si wafers with three Gutta-percha compounds: GuttaCore™, ProTaper™, and Lexicon™. The images of annealed surfaces showed that the nanoparticles were encapsulated, forming surfaces with root me

Type III dens invaginatus has a complex root canal structure that poses a greater challenge when endodontic treatment is necessary. Type III dens invaginatus rarely affects mandibular central incisors. In this case, we reported a combined therapy of type III dens invaginatus in a mandibular central incisor with a periapical lesion. Cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) imaging was used in the diagnosis and management of the unusual anatomy of dens invaginatus. First, the hard tissue of the dens invaginatus was removed using a dental operating microscope. The root canal was then prepared with a

OBJECTIVE: We sought to measure and calculate the percentage of the gutta-percha-filled area in the apical root canal after the use of a standardized or inverted master cone in cold lateral compaction.Study design Two groups of extracted mandibular premolars with a single canal were instrumented with instruments of the same size; furthermore, they were obturated with laterally compacted gutta-percha cones with AH26 used as a sealer. In the first group, a standardized master cone was used with its narrow end in an apical position, whereas in the other group, an inverted master cone was used wit

The purpose of this study was to observe the quality of seal of the glass ionomer cement, Ketac-Endo, after treatment of the root canal wall. The root canals of 140 extracted human teeth were prepared biomechanically. The root canals were treated with either EDTA or received an intracanal dressing of calcium hydroxide or camphorated paramonochlorphenol. The root canals were filled by the lateral condensation technique with gutta-percha points and the sealer Ketac-Endo, or zinc oxide-eugenol cement or Sealapex. The teeth were placed into a 2% methylene blue dye solution inside a flask, which wa

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of digital subtraction radiography in the diagnosis of vertical root fractures (VRFs).
METHODS: Twenty decoronated uniradicular human teeth were placed in the alveoli of a dry mandible and radiographed twice, first without (unfilled roots) and then with (filled roots) a gutta-percha cone placed into the root canal. Roots were then removed from the dry mandible, and vertical fractures were created with the aid of a universal testing machine. The fractured roots were repositioned in the mandibular alveoli and again radiograp

A pilot study was carried out in five mandibular primary molars using calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) Paste as root canal filling material to find out an alternative to the routinely used zinc oxide eugenol (ZnOE), which is non-resorbable and causes deflection of succedaneous teeth. The six month clinical and radiographic follow-up carried out at 2 months interval, revealed that the treated teeth with Ca(OH)2 as root canal filling material were successful, showing no pain and tenderness to percussion. A tendency for decrease in size of radiolucency was seen. Two teeth showed complete healing of th

INTRODUCTION: Endodontic-related paresthesia is a potential complication despite the development of endodontic materials and techniques. We describe a case of periapical lesion-induced paresthesia that was successfully treated endodontically. The literature review of endodontic-related paresthesia is also presented.
METHODS: The patient sought treatment from a general practitioner for lower lip paresthesia as the only symptom. Paresthesia was present on the left side of the lower lip extending from the mandibular midline to the second premolar both extraorally and intraorally in the area of m

BACKGROUND: The conventional procedure using stainless steel hand files is very time-consuming and has associated disadvantages. A literature review demonstrates the effectiveness of nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary files in this regard. Technological advancements have led to the development of various single-file Ni-Ti rotary systems, such as Kedo-S and XP-Endo Shaper.
AIM: To compare the instrumentation time and quality of obturation in primary molars, assessed by the Coll and Sadrian criteria, using two single-file Ni-Ti rotary systems, Kedo-S and XP-Endo Shaper.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether chlorhexidine gluconate (0.12%), used as an endodontic irrigating solution, would affect the apical seal of three root canal cements. One hundred, extracted, human, single-canal teeth were divided into 9 experimental groups of 10 teeth each, in addition to a positive and negative control group of 5 teeth each. The teeth were decoronated at the level of the CEJ, accessed, instrumented to a Master apical file #50, irrigated with either sterile saline, 5.25% NaOCl, or 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate, and dried using paper points. Obturation was acc

INTRODUCTION: Cervicofacial subcutaneous emphysema is defined as the abnormal introduction of air in the subcutaneous tissues of the head and neck. It is mainly caused by trauma, head and neck surgery, general anesthesia, and coughing or habitual performance of Valsalva manoeuvre. The occurrence of subcutaneous emphysema after dental treatment is rare, and diffusion of gas into the mediastinum is much rarer, especially when the procedure is a nonsurgical treatment. Presented here is a case of subcutaneous emphysema that occurred after sodium hypochlorite irrigation during endodontic treatment,

AIM: To examine cases showing increased width of the periodontal space (IW) at a long-term follow-up examination and to determine whether this finding could be explained by endodontic or nonendodontic factors.
METHODOLOGY: A series of intraoral radiographs was obtained from 131 patients 20-27 years after root canal treatment. The same individuals had been examined 10 years earlier, and radiographs taken immediately after treatment were also available. Fourteen roots (5.6%) demonstrated increased width of the apical periodontal space at the end of the study period. These were subjected to furt

This article presents non-surgical resolution of an extensive periapical lesion of endodontic origin associated with the maxillary left lateral incisor. Clinical examination revealed an asymptomatic bony hard swelling confined to the palate, while radiographic analysis showed a lesion measuring 22 mm in diameter and nearly 389 mm(2) in area. Through apical patency, 4 ml of intracanal exudate was drained. After thorough biomechanical preparation, a calcium hydroxide/CPMC root canal dressing was applied and periodically renewed for 11 months. The exudate was eliminated at treatment onset and sig
