One hundred eight knees in 83 patients with a valgus alignment of greater than 10 degrees underwent total joint replacement performed by a single surgeon using the same technique for ligament balancing, which involved releasing the lateral retinaculum and iliotibial band, followed when necessary by detaching the lateral collateral ligament and popliteus tendon from the femur. AIM OF WORK: Evaluation of suitability and safety of venous port implantation with catheter insertion via the right internal jugular vein in oncology patients.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred one totally implantable venous ports were placed in 100 patients with malignancies from January 1, 2003 until March 31, 2005. Catheter of venous port was preferably inserted via the right internal jugular vein. We recorded a number of successful implantations using this venous approach and the rate of complications during the procedure and follow-up.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of oral antimicrobial suppression on the outcome of streptococcal periprosthetic joint infection (PJI).
METHODS: Consecutive patients with streptococcal PJI receiving antimicrobial suppression for >6 months were prospectively included and compared to a retrospective control group without suppression. BACKGROUND: The rate of cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) infection is increasing coincident with an increase in the number of device procedures. Preprocedural antimicrobial prophylaxis reduces CIED infections; however, there is no evidence that prolonged postprocedural antimicrobials additionally reduce risk. BACKGROUND: Alpha defensin is a new biomarker that has been shown to have a very high accuracy to rule out periprosthetic joint infection. Recently, a new rapid lateral flow version of the alpha defensin test was developed and introduced to detect high levels of alpha defensin in synovial fluid quickly and with ease. We conducted a single-center prospective clinical study to compare the results of the Synovasure Alpha Defensin Test with those of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS) criteria, which are considered to be the gold standard for diagnosing periprosthetic joint infection.
