The length of the Y-chromosomes in men examined by forensic psychiatrists.

The relative length of the Y-chromosome was investigated by a method of photometric scanning in 106 consecutive cases of men referred for forensic psychiatric examination and in 49 healthy controls. Comparison of both the mean value and the variance of the relative length of the Y-chromosome produced negative evidence for any association between the size of the Y-chromosome and mental disorder associated with criminality.

Effect of radiophosphorus on chromosomes in swiss albino mice during postnatal development.

Swiss albino mice of one to five weeks of age were injected with P-32 at the dose of 1 muCi/g body weight and were autopsied when they were six weeks old. Karyological examination was carried out on bone-marrow cells. The chromosome aberrations observed were terminal and interstitial deletions, dicentrics, metacentrics, and rings. The frequency of aneuploid cells observed was 1.4%.

Acquired ring chromosomes in hematological malignancies: A systematic evidence review for diagnostic advances, cytogenomic insights, and clinical significance by an International Consortium on Human Ring Chromosomes (ICHRC) working group.

Recent studies have described acquired ring chromosomes (aRCs), marker chromosomes, and extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) in various tumors. However, the genomic copy number aberrations (CNAs) and gene rearrangements within these aRCs require further genomic analysis, and the knowledge base to interpret their clinical implications remains largely unformed. A working group was organized by the International Consortium of Human Ring Chromosomes (ICHRC) to conduct a systematic evidence review of the role of aRCs in hematologic malignancies. This retrospective review summarizes the current molecular cy…

Chromosome therapy: Potential strategies for the correction of severe chromosome aberrations.

Large chromosomal aberrations occur commonly during development, resulting in complex and multisystem diseases. In spite of this high frequency, there are currently no means for correcting these disorders due to their complexity and involvement of multiple genes. Recently, several new approaches have been devised that target whole chromosomes in vitro, which are collectively referred to as "Chromosome Therapies." These include silencing and selection for loss of the extra chromosome in trisomies, promotion of euploidy in an aneuploid culture, and forced loss and replacement of a chromosome. He…

[Abnormalities of chromosome 17 in myeloid malignancies with complex chromosomal abnormalities].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics of the abnormalities of chromosome 17 in myeloid malignancies with complex chromosomal abnorma … wo kind of balanced translocations including t(15;17) in AML and t(15;17;22) in CML were found. All chromosomes were involved except chromosomes 5, 6 and 22 as partner chromosomes, the most common one was chromosome 15 (8.2%), followed by chromosome 2 (5.4%). Five of the 6 cases with translocation of chromosomes 15 and 17 were acute promyelocytic leukemia, th …

[Aberrations of chromosome 5 in myeloid malignancies with complex chromosome abnormalities].

This study was aimed to investigate the chromosome 5 abnormalities in complex chromosome aberrations (CCAs) in myeloid malignancies, chromosome aberrations of 68 cases of myeloid malignancies with CCAs were analysed. The 68 cases included 22 cases of acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML), 32 cases of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and 14 cases of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The results showed that the complex chromosome abnormalities were found in all chromosomes of 68 cases, but the incidence of chromosome 5 abnormality was higher (38.2%, 26/68), including 45.5% (10/22) in AML, 15.6% (5/32) i…

On the frequency of chromosome exchanges in a control population measured by chromosome painting.

Chromosome painting has been shown to be a valid and rapid method for quantifying structural chromosome rearrangements in human lymphocytes. The method is particularly useful for detecting stable aberrations which are difficult and expensive to quantify with classical methods. The inherent stability of translocations has enabled them to be used as a biodosimeter for chronic and temporally displaced exposure to radiation. Translocations may also be useful for quantifying chronic exposure to other environmental agents which may result in an accumulation of cytogenetic damage with age. Most expos
