BACKGROUND: The Children's Oncology Group (COG) publishes consensus guidelines with screening recommendations for early identification of treatment-related morbidities among childhood cancer survivors. We sought to estimate the yield of recommended yearly urinalysis screening for genitourinary complications as per Version 3.0 of the COG Long-Term Follow-Up Guidelines and identify possible risk factors for abnormal screening in a survivor population.

Surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment for retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLS). Herein, we describe a case of dedifferentiated RPLS successfully treated with an extended surgical approach with adjuvant chemotherapy. Angiosarcomas rarely involve the female genital tract. There have only been sporadic case reports of angiosarcomas of the cervix, uterus, vagina, parametrium, broad ligament and pelvis, and only 11 well-documented case reports of primary ovarian angiosarcoma in the English language literature to date. We present a case of primary pure ovarian angiosarcoma with lung metastasis that had partial response after chemotherapy with adriamycin and ifosfamide. But pulmonary hemorrhage and respiratory failure resulted in her death 7 months after initial diagnosis.

Angiosarcoma is a rare neoplasm, accounting for only 1%-2% of all sarcomas. It occurs most frequently in the skin and soft tissue and rarely in the thoracic region. To our knowledge, a mediastinal angiosarcoma is extremely rare. A primary extragonadal germ cell tumor of the retroperitoneum was diagnosed in a 47-year-old man without elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein, human chorionic gonadotropin, or lactate dehydrogenase levels. The diagnosis was made by histologic analysis after resection. The patient responded well to a combination of cisplatin, etoposide, and ifosfamide, achieving a partial response with four cycles. Residual tumor resection revealed necrotic tissue only. The patient was alive and disease free 24 months after diagnosis. The diagnostic difficulties of this particular situation are discussed.

OBJECTIVE: To assess surface contamination by hazardous drugs in a comprehensive cancer centre in Ireland using surface wipe sampling.
METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study using surface wipe sampling to assesses surface contamination by hazardous drugs in a Haematology Oncology Department. Wipe samples were collected from 42 surfaces across three clinical areas. Samples were analysed for six hazardous drugs: cyclophosphamide, etoposide, 5-fluorouracil, gemcitabine, ifosfamide and paclitaxel using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

The poor prognosis of patients with unresectable pulmonary metastases of soft tissue sarcoma is well known. In order to evaluate the beneficial effect of radiotherapy, we have treated 44 patients with pulmonary metastases of grade 3 soft tissue sarcoma from 1980 to 1986.
