STUDY OBJECTIVES: The upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS) is a recently described form of sleep-disordered breathing in which transient increases in upper airway resistance result in repetitive EEG arousals. UARS is not associated with apnea or diminished airflow, although snoring and excessive daytime somnolence (EDS) are common. Sleep apnea among commercial drivers may increase the risk of fall-asleep crashes, which incur large expenses. Drivers of passenger cars whose apnea is treated experience lower crash risk. BACKGROUND: Cheyne-Stokes respiration (CSR) is a major form of central sleep apnea in patients with heart failure and is associated with mortality in these patients. OBJECTIVE: Wearable monitors are increasingly used to assess sleep. However, validity is unknown for certain monitors and populations. We tested the Garmin Vivofit 4 in a pediatric clinical sample.

Sleep disturbance occurs early in Huntington's disease (HD). Consumer- and research-grade activity monitors may enable routine assessment of sleep disturbances in HD. We compared Actiwatch Spectrum Pro, Jawbone UP2 and Fitbit One to the gold standard, polysomnography, in four late presymptomatic and three early HD participants.
