While the use of aspirin in the secondary prevention of cardiovascular atherothrombotic disease is well established, many aspects of primary prevention are still unclear. Cohort studies currently available suggest that the most effective platelet inhibitors for the secondary prevention of ischaemic cerebrovascular accidents are acetylsalicylic acid and ticlopidine. Trachoma is a major cause of blindness in Ethiopia and is widespread throughout the country. No health education for blindness prevention is conducted in schools even though 62% of the eligible children attend primary school.
