Patient-specific 3D-printed four-part interlocking mold-assisted sticky bone graft shaping in late secondary alveolar bone grafting.

Accurate graft adaptation remains a major challenge in alveolar bone grafting, especially when particulate graft materials are used. This technical note presents a digital and surgical workflow for shaping a defect-matched sticky bone graft with a patient-specific three-dimensional (3D)-printed mold. Cone-beam computed tomography-based segmentation and volumetric planning were performed in 3D Slicer, and the cleft geometry was transferred to Meshmixer for mold design. A four-part mold was fabricated to allow controlled condensation of the graft material and retrieval without fragmentation. Aut

Surgical management of a temporal meningoencephalocele with a patient-specific combined craniofossa prosthesis: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Meningoencephaloceles can originate through any defect in the cranial bones, including the skull base. They can be completely asymptomatic or present with typical symptoms such as headaches, seizures, or meningitis. OBSERVATIONS: The authors present the case of a 54-year-old female who presented with right-sided ear and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. Computed tomography showed a large lytic lesion of the squamous part of the temporal bone with cortical bone destruction, extending to the mandibular fossa. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a temporal bone meningoencephalo

Point-of-care testing device platform for the determination of creatinine on an enzyme@CS/PB/MXene@AuNP-based screen-printed carbon electrode.

Screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) functionalized with MXene-based three-dimensional nanomaterials are reported for rapid determination of creatinine. Ti3C2TX MXene with in situ reduced AuNPs (MXene@AuNP) were used as a coreactant accelerator for efficient immobilization of enzymes. Creatinine could be oxidized by chitosan-embedded creatinine amidohydrolase, creatine amidinohydrolase, or sarcosine oxidase to generate H2O2, which could be electrochemically detected enhanced by Prussian blue (PB). The enzyme@CS/PB/MXene@AuNP/SPCE detected creatinine within the range 0.03-4.0 mM, with a limi

Ovarian Cancer Detection Using Photoacoustic Flow Cytometry.

Many studies suggest that the enumeration of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) may show promise as a prognostic tool for ovarian cancer. Current strategies for the detection of CTCs include flow cytometry, microfluidic devices, and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Despite recent advances, methods for the detection of early ovarian cancer metastasis still lack the sensitivity and specificity required for clinical translation. Here, a novel method is presented for the detection of ovarian circulating tumor cells by photoacoustic flow cytometry (PAFC) utilizing a custom three dimensiona

Accurate fixation of complicated comminuted femur fracture with customized LCP referencing a life-size 3D-printed model: a case report.

Fixation of a comminuted mid-distal femur fracture is challenging in clinical practice due to a high degree of comminution and malformation. Here we describe a procedure involving a series of steps for accurate fracture fixation in a patient diagnosed with comminuted mid-distal femur fracture. Emergency traction of the tibia tubercle was initially performed using a large distractor for temporary external fixation to maintain the femoral force line and to reduce intraoperative fractures. A three-dimensional printed model was then used as a preoperative simulation tool to preshape the customized

Maximizing Fibroblast Adhesion on Protein-Coated Surfaces Using Microfluidic Cell Printing.

translation of in vitro cell based assays to in vivo cellular response is imprecise at best. The advent of three-dimensional cell cultures in addition to bioreactor type microfluidics has improved the situation. However, these technical advances cannot be easily combined due to practical limitations. Development of a vertical microfluidic cell printer overcomes this obstacle, providing the ability to more closely recapitulate complex cellular environments and responses. As a proof of concept, we investigated the adhesion of fibroblasts under flow on protein-coated surfaces using a novel vertic

Verifying calculated dose to the breast in stereotactic radiotherapy: A practical phantom-based method.

BACKGROUND: Reference dosimetry for the GammaPod breast radiosurgery device is determined in a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom, while the clinical dose calculations assume the patient's breast has the atomic composition of water with a density (∼0.935 g/cm3). Direct measurement within this clinical breast-tissue equivalent material is desirable to validate the treatment planning system (TPS) with end-to-end testing and patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA). PURPOSE: This study aimed to validate the GammaPod TPS dose calculations by 3D printing a breast-equivalent phantom and to dev

Decellularized extracellular matrix enhances hydrogel printability for bioprinting functional muscle constructs in a volumetric muscle loss model.

Volumetric muscle loss (VML) remains a major clinical challenge due to the limited regenerative capacity of skeletal muscle. Effective repair requires the use of biomaterials that support cell viability, promote myogenic differentiation and enable vascularisation to allow the formation of structurally aligned, functional muscle. Here, we have integrated a biomimetic bioink based on gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) and methacryloyl-modified decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM-MA) with a micropost tension-assisted bioprinting strategy to engineer skeletal muscle constructs for VML repair. We s

Marine Bioceramic Generation for Bone Tissue Regeneration: Sea Urchin (Echinometra mathaei) Exoskeleton-Derived Calcium Carbonate as a Precursor for Hydroxyapatite Synthesis, Incorporated into Chitosan Based-Hydrogel and 3D-Printed PCL Scaffold for Osteogenic Differentiation.

The marine environment is a rich and diverse habitat, home to numerous organisms that serve as valuable sources of biological and pharmacological compounds. The skeletal structures of many marine invertebrates represent precursors for calcium phosphate (CaP) bioceramics. This study demonstrates hydroxyapatite (HA) synthesis from sea urchin (Echinometra mathaei) shell and spine, a sustainable CaCO₃ source. FTIR and XRD analysis revealed the presence of characteristic peaks associated with hydroxyapatite. SEM-EDS observations indicated that synthesis parameters determined the calcium to phosphor

Scatter radiation effects of titanium osteosynthesis plates in mandibular reconstruction: An experimental 3D-printed phantom and cell culture study.

Mandibular reconstruction with fibula free flaps commonly requires fixation using titanium osteosynthesis plates. In patients receiving adjuvant radiotherapy, scatter radiation effects from metallic hardware may alter dose distribution and affect biological responses, but systematic evidence remains limited. This experimental study examined the influence of plate geometry on scatter radiation and cell proliferation. A three-dimensional printed mandibular phantom, generated from patient CT data and combined with a water phantom, was used to simulate clinical irradiation conditions. Irradiation

Oxygen-enhanced 3D-printed scaffolds for repair of ischemic bone.

Avascular necrosis (AVN) is a bone degenerative condition characterized by disrupted blood supply, leading to bone necrosis and subsequent bone collapse. Current AVN treatments, such as core decompression and surgical interventions, exhibited limited success rates due to donor site morbidity, infection, and structural mismatch. Existing treatments fail to regenerate the necrotic bone and prevent bone collapse. Thus, the current study explores the potential of 3D-printed composite scaffolds consisting of calcium peroxide nanoparticles (CaO2NPs) and manganese dioxide (MnO2) within a polylactide
