Prospective evaluation of arterial spin labeling and diffusion tensor imaging-magnetic resonance imaging for the non-invasive assessment of renal allograft dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: The optimal management strategy for end-stage renal disease is renal transplantation, graft function must be monitored regularly postoperatively. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore the value of combining functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) parameters with laboratory parameters in assessing chronic allograft dysfunction (CAD), and to compare whether a combined approach was superior to single-parameter indicators. METHODS: A total of 86 subjects were enrolled in the study, of whom, 20 had stable renal function, and 66 had biopsy-confirmed CAD. Imaging was performed

Brain structural plasticity in rats subjected to early binocular enucleation characterized by high resolution anatomical magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging.

Visual deprivation leads to structural neuroplasticity in the blind subjects, including gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) atrophy and alterations in structural connectivity. The rat model of binocular enucleation (BE) is a frequently used animal model for studying brain plasticity induced by early blindness. Yet few neuroimaging studies have been performed on this model to investigate whether or not the BE rats have image phenotypes similar to or comparable to, those observed in the early blind subjects. The current study aimed to assess brain structural plasticity in BE rats using anatom

Head Ultrasound Resistive Indices Are Associated With Brain Injury on Diffusion Tensor Imaging Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Neonates With Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is associated with dysfunctional cerebral autoregulation. Resistive index (RI) measured in the anterior cerebral artery on transfontanellar head ultrasound is a noninvasive measure of blood flow and may indicate autoregulation dysfunction. We tested whether RI was associated with brain injury on diffusion tensor imaging magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-five neonates who underwent therapeutic hypothermia for HIE were enrolled. Resistive index values were obtained from head ultrasound performed at the end

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging for non-neoplastic conditions in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic regions: pearls and potential pitfalls in imaging interpretation.

Potentially, diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) can assess the functional information on concerning the status of tissue cellularity, because increased cellularity is associated with impeded diffusion. DWI in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic regions has demonstrated the usefulness to detect malignant lesions and differentiate them from benign lesions. However, it has been shown more recently that there is some overlap in ADC values for benign and malignant neoplasms. Moreover, some non-neoplastic lesions in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic regions exhibit restricted diffusion

Conventional magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging studies in children with novel GPR56 mutations: further delineation of a cobblestone-like phenotype.

GPR56-related bilateral frontoparietal polymicrogyria (BFPP) is a rare recessively inherited disorder of neuronal migration caused by mutations of GPR56. To better delineate the clinical, molecular, and neuroradiological phenotypes associated with BFPP, we performed conventional magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging studies in a series of prospectively enrolled patients carrying novel GPR56 mutations. All subjects with GPR56-related BFPP showed a characteristic morphological pattern, including abnormalities of the cerebellar cortex with cerebellar cysts located at the periphe

The use of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and parametric response mapping for disease outcome prediction in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) shows variable treatment responses due to tumor heterogeneity and individual radiosensitivity, complicating the early identification of patients at risk for recurrence. Developing reliable imaging biomarkers could help predict treatment outcomes, enabling timely treatment adjustments and improved prognosis. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the use of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), based on diffusion-weighted imaging, and parametric response mapping (PRM), a voxel-wise imaging analysis method, in predicting treatment outcomes of patients with

Free Water Corrected Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging Reveals Microstructural Alterations in Corpus Callosum Subregions of Preschool Children With Autism.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is associated with white matter microstructural abnormalities, particularly in the corpus callosum (CC). This study employed free water corrected diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (fwc-dMRI) to investigate CC subregion-specific microstructural alterations in preschool children with ASD, which mitigates partial volume effects from extracellular free water. Sixty-one ASD children (6.03 ± 1.08 years) and 62 typically developing (TD) controls (6.49 ± 1.45 years) were enrolled in this study. In the ASD group, the symptom severity was assessed by the Autism Behavior…

Leveraging magnetic resonance imaging to assess biocompatible scaffolds diffusion and flow-driven perfusion for lab-on-a-chip systems.

Biocompatible scaffolds play a crucial role in creating 3D in vitro models for precision medicine. Understanding liquid transport dynamics is essential for ensuring timely delivery of nutrients, drugs or imaging agents to cells embedded within the scaffold. Therefore, it is imperative to thoroughly characterise the physical properties of these scaffolds. In this study, we leverage nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to examine the diffusivity and flow-driven perfusion properties of commonly used cryogels and hydrogels. We used deuterium oxide (i.e. heavy water) as a contrast agent to moni
