Residents of the Techa riverside villages chronically exposed to ionizing radiation (the average dose rate in 1951-1956 was 0.047 Gy/year, the maximum reached 2.44 Gy/year) developed marked changes in the cellular composition of peripheral blood. Nodular formation of the thyroid tissue can occur as a result of exposure to radiation. The nodular goiter is a common disease seen in the city of Elazig and its surroundings, in the eastern part of Turkey. A prospective study was conducted in an effort to identify the role of 129I in drinking water supply. Following the Chernobyl accident, radioactive fission products, including (131)I and (137)Cs, were deposited in Bryansk Oblast in Russia. Intakes of radioiodines, mainly (131)I in milk, were the principal sources of radiation doses to thyroids of residents of the contaminated areas, but those radionuclides decayed before detailed contamination surveys could be performed. As a result, (137)Cs deposition density is the primary measure of the contamination due to the accident and there are relatively few measurements of the ratio of (131)I to (137)Cs in vegetation or soil samples from this area.

AIM: The aim of the present study was to estimate the additional radiation exposure to personnel, other patients and members of the family caused by patients who had been injected with 99mTc-Sestamibi (Cardiolite DuPONT PHARMA) for preoperative localization of parathyroid adenoma.
METHODS: Dose rates were measured from 16 patients who had received an intravenous injection of 600 +/- 50 MBq 99mTc-Sestamibi. All measurements were performed with a portable dosimeter (Berthold LB 133) at 3 different distances (0.5, 1 and 2 m) at 10 min, 180-200 min and 24 h after administration of the tracer.

In this paper, the dose assessment for the iodine inhalation exposure in 19 aerosol sizes and three gas/vapor forms at three levels of thyroid uptake, was performed. Two different modes of work (light vs. heavy) and breathing (nose vs. mouth) for aerosol inhalation were investigated. In order to calculate the cumulated activities per unit of inhaled activity, a combined model which included the latest models of both human respiratory and alimentary tract was developed. This paper reports the interest of the novel 4-carboxyphenyl-grafted screen-printed electrodes (4-CP-SPEs) for sub-nanomolar analysis of uranium in water samples. Electrodes were easily prepared via electrochemically reduction of the corresponding diazonium salt. The stability of the grafted layer has been clearly demonstrated. Formation of a three-component urinary excretion function using the data of occupational exposure cases is described. Measurement results of plutonium inhalation from two subjects over 6000 and 2500 d are used in the derivation of this function. The three-component excretion function obtained is U(t) = 0.0008e(-0.0566(t)) + 0.00009e(-0.0042(t)) + 0.00004e(-0.00008(t)). The function is therefore proposed as a reliable basis to make an uptake assessment for operational control for mixed class of plutonium dominated by M-class chronic exposure.
