SEM evaluation of neodentinal bridging after direct pulp protection with mineral trioxide aggregate.

Dentinal dysplasia (DD) Type I, is a hereditary disturbance in dentine formation. In this anomaly, teeth in both primary and secondary dentitions are affected, and radiographically show short and blunted roots with obliterated root canals and periapical pathosis. Management of patients with DD has presented dentists with problems. Extraction has been suggested as a treatment alternative for teeth with pulp necrosis and periapical abscess. Follow-up and routine conservative treatment is another choice of treatment plan in DD. Another approach for the treatment of teeth with DD has included peri

Tissue responses to an experimental calcium phosphate cement and mineral trioxide aggregate as materials for furcation perforation repair: a histological study in dogs.

The aim was to evaluate histologically the inflammatory reactions and tissue responses to an experimental tricalcium phosphate cement (TCP) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) when used as repair materials in furcation perforations in dogs. Perforations were performed in 24 mandibular premolars of six anaesthetised dogs and filled either with ProRoot MTA (grey) or TCP. The root canals were subsequently shaped and filled, and the access cavities were closed with a bonded composite resin. The animals were killed at 12 weeks. After radiological examination, the teeth and surrounding structures w

Direct pulp capping versus partial pulpotomy using RetroMTA® in deeply carious primary molars with normal pulp or reversible pulpitis: a superiority randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Coronal pulpotomy (CP) has commonly been used after vital pulp exposure in deeply carious primary molars, although some concerns remain regarding unnecessary pulp removal and procedural morbidity. With the increasing use of calcium silicate cements (CSCs), more conservative vital pulp therapies, such as direct pulp capping (DPC) and partial pulpotomy (PP), have received growing attention. However, direct comparative clinical evidence between these approaches in primary molars is limited. Accordingly, this study sought to compare the cumulative survival probabilities of DPC and PP u…

Review of the success of pulp exposure treatment of cariously and traumatically exposed pulps in immature permanent incisors and molars.

The decision to retain immature permanent tooth with pulp disease is problematical. Restoring the tooth would normally involve some form of pulp capping/pulpotomy procedure or a more radical pulpectomy and root canal treatment. Pulp capping/pulpotomy procedures, where all or part of the pulp is retained, relies upon an accurate assessment of the pulp condition, and the careful management of the remaining healthy tissue. Pulpectomy or root canal treatment is technically difficult as the root apex is open with the result that conventional preparation and filling techniques are compromised. On th
