We report the case of a 22 year-old-woman who presented with upper extremity cellulitis secondary to an infiltration of illicit intravenous drug use. She confessed to the intravenous use of Opana ER (an extended release oral formulation of oxymorphone) which is an opioid drug approved only for oral use. She was found to have clinical evidence of profound thrombotic microangiopathy which resulted due to the intravenous use of Opana ER. Positive identification relies on comparison of antemortem and postmortem data. The purpose of this investigation was to examine the psychologic test results of women diagnosed with infertility as compared with the general population of women. The infertile group consisted of 150 women, whereas the control group included 50 women. Both groups were similar in regard to age and number of years married. In November 1980, an outbreak of folliculitis due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa occurred in members of a health spa in Tennessee. The source of infection was traced to the health spa swimming pool, which had not been chlorinated for two days due to equipment malfunction. An outbreak of foodborne hepatitis A infection compelled two regional health departments in eastern Tennessee to implement an emergency mass clinic for providing hepatitis immune serum globulin (ISG) to several thousand potentially exposed people. For the mass clinic framework, we utilized the smallpox post-event clinic plans of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), although the plans had only been exercised for smallpox. To provide a comprehensive review of uterine disease in guinea pigs, we performed a retrospective study of the pathology archives of the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine. A case of mycosis fungoides in which pathologic rupture of the spleen led to intraperitoneal hemorrhage and death is described. To our knowledge, splenic rupture has not been reported previously as a cause of death in mycosis fungoides. Immunologic studies demonstrated that the neoplastic cell was a suppressor/cytotoxic T-cell. In most cases of mycosis fungoides or the Sézary syndrome, the neoplastic cell has been a helper/inducer T-cell. This retrospective study describes 8 cases of intestinal hemangioma diagnosed in horses during postmortem examination or surgical biopsy at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. In all cases, the intestine was the sole organ affected, and lesions were focal (3/8) or multifocal (5/8). Nodules were most commonly within the small intestine (7/8), particularly the jejunum (5/7).
