Disorders of sex development (DSD) are a well-known cause of sterility and reduced fertility in dogs. Here, we report on 6 new cases of DSD in French bulldogs diagnosed by us within the last year. The animals were phenotypical females who underwent detailed diagnosis due to the presence of an enlarged clitoris or a penis-like structure with atypically located urethral orifice (hypospadias). The procedure described demonstrates the feasibility of reliable implantation of an artificial sphincter system in female patients via a paraurethral access between the urethral orifice and the clitoris following radical cystectomy with continent, orthotopic urinary diversion and postoperatively developed urinary stress-incontinence. The technique presented avoids the more invasive transperitoneal or transvaginal approaches which jeopardize the neobladder-neck and increase the risk for infections or fistulas.

Innervation of the sphincter urethrae externus muscle was studied in 30 human fetuses with the aid of operation microscope. The investigated muscle receives direct branch from anterior roots of S2, S3, or S4, or from the trunk of the pudendal nerve. The branch to the muscle divides into 2 or 3 rami before it enters the muscle, or it divides into 2 or 3 terminal rami, and gives off the dorsal nerve of the penis or clitoris.

We report a case of malignant large cleaved cell vulvar lymphoma predominantly affecting the clitoris, in a 60 year-old woman. In a review of the literature, female genital tract lymphomas of vulvar location are exceptional. Histologically, these tumors must be differentiated from pseudolymphomatous lesions. In the present case (Stage IE), response to chemotherapy was good and the patient remains asymptomatic after three years of follow-up.

Radiographic findings of spinal dysrhaphism with diastasis of the public bones are often associated with, and can afford the first clue to, the physical findings of absent clitoris, ununited labia and patulous and foreshortned urethra.

A technique for construction of external male genitalia in a transsexual patient is presented in detail. The McGregor groin flap is used for penile construction, and the Scott inflatable prosthesis is used to produce an erection. The shape of the penis is improved by secondary local excisions, and the clitoris is bivalved and inserted at the base of the penis to allow sexual sensation. The appearance and the function of the constructed genitalia have been deemed quite satisfactory by this transsexual patient.

A case of partial monosomy of the 13p terminal to 13q12, associated with a de novo 13/18 translocation, is reported. The symptoms appeared to be derived from both 18q- and partial monosomy 13, the latter giving rise to: high arched palate, epicanthus, antimongolian slant, small eye fissure, flat nasal bridge, hypoplastic helix, and large clitoris. Serum Ig-A and Ig-M levels were normal in our case.

We report a case of a 23-year-old woman diagnosed as having an epithelioid sarcoma of the vulva. She was treated by a clitoris-sparing hemivulvectomy and lymph node sampling of the ipsilateral groin. Vulvar reconstruction was performed with a rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap. Four years after the operation there is no evidence of disease and the patient has a normal sex life. The English literature on this subject is reviewed with special attention to the biological behavior and therapeutic approach.
