BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Emerging evidence suggests that ADHD is linked to hypofunction of the prefrontal-parietal attention network, accompanied by compensatory hyperactivation in the cerebellum and brainstem. However, the underlying neural mechanisms remain insufficiently understood. In recent years, computerized cognitive training has gained attention as a promising non-pharmacological intervention for alleviating ADHD symptoms, though its m

BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune, inflammatory neurological disease of the central nervous system (CNS), increasing in incidence and prevalence across both developed and developing countries. Cognitive difficulties are common in MS sufferers with 70% experiencing difficulties in higher-level brain functioning such as planning, attention, problem solving, and memory. Computerised cognitive training programmes may hold promise as a treatment option for improving cognitive function in people with MS, subject to exploring and addressing potential barriers to usability an

BACKGROUND: Pharmacologic therapy is the primary treatment used to manage Parkinson's disease (PD) symptoms. However, it becomes less effective with time and some symptoms do not respond to medication. Complementary interventions are therefore required for PD. Recent studies have implemented transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in combination with other modalities of interventions, such as physical and cognitive training. Although the combination of tDCS with physical and cognitive training seems promising, the existing studies present mixed results. Therefore, a systematic review of

Previous observations of improvements in cognition in typically developing children following moderate to vigorous exercise (e.g., Budde, Voelcker-Rehage, Pietrabyk-Kendziorra, Ribeiro, & Tidow, 2008; Hillman et al., 2009) have led to increased interest in the potential benefits of exercise for children with neurodevelopmental disorders, involving difficulties in self-regulation (e.g., Halperin & Healey, 2011; Archer & Kostrzewa, 2012). Using a within-sample design, the current study looked at the beneficial effects of non-aerobic movement training (Tai Chi), compared to aerobic movement train

BACKGROUND: Neonatal deaths contribute significantly to slower progress in under-5 mortality reduction. Lack of sufficiently trained birth assistants partly contributes to early neonatal deaths. Resuscitation training equips frontline health-care workers (HCWs) with requisite knowledge and skills to prevent birth asphyxia.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to evaluate the immediate impact of newborn resuscitation training on cognitive ability of HCWs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive observational study using pre- and posttraining scores obtained by HCWs who were partici

Visuospatial skills can be enhanced thanks to specific intervention programs, but the additional benefits of neuromodulation on these skills have not been fully investigated yet, although transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has demonstrated to boost the effects of cognitive trainings. When combining cognitive intervention with neuromodulation, the time-window of tDCS application in relation to task execution has to be taken into account since it has been shown to affect stimulation outcomes. The aim of the present experiment was to investigate the influence of tDCS in enhancing the

BACKGROUND: Patients with Anorexia Nervosa (AN) experience high levels of social difficulties and anxiety. These problems might be underpinned by negatively biased processing of social stimuli. The aim of this study was to examine the feasibility of using a novel Cognitive Bias Modification (CBM) training to target information processing biases in patients with AN.
METHODS: Twenty-eight patients with AN completed a baseline and end of intervention assessment of mood and social appraisals. The CBM training consisted of 5 sessions and included an attentional probe task to train attention toward

Current data point to an alteration of both the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-system and the peripheral transmission of catecholamines in anxiety disorders. There is also some evidence for the effect of several components of cognitive-behavioural interventions such as coping and control and for an effect of exercise training on the neuroendocrine stress response in healthy subjects as well as patients suffering from distinct (mental) disorders. This double-blind, controlled study investigated the effect of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) in combination with either high-level enduranc

BACKGROUND: There are normal physiological changes in physical and cognitive functioning with age. Combining different trainings simultaneously, by adding a cognitive task as a distractor of the motor task (additional) or solving a cognitive task with a motor task (incorporated), seems beneficial to counteract aging effects on functional capacities. However, studies are needed to distinguish benefits between additional or incorporated training and to compare these effects against conventional motor training. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of two simultaneous motor-cognitive tr

Cognitive load is a key determinant of performance, safety, and learning in high-stakes environments. Self-report and performance-based methods remain valuable but often miss rapid within-task changes in mental demand, motivating non-invasive physiological sensing for continuous monitoring. The interpretability of these signals depends on their specificity, acquisition quality, signal processing requirements, and real-world feasibility. Integrating physiological mechanism, measurement performance, and operational feasibility, this article reviews non-invasive physiological metrics, including c
