Polyarteritis nodosa was diagnosed in a patient one year after an episode of severe serous otitis media and 2 1/2 years after initiation of a 23 month course of hyposensitization therapy for nonseasonal rhinitis. Relationships among immunotherapy, otitis media and polyarteritis nodosa merit emphasis because their recognition may lead to early diagnosis.

A diabetic man with no previous history of allergy began to suffer itchy, painful swelling at the sites of injection after three months' treatment with bovine insulin. Insulin specific IgE concentrations (1.2-2.0 U/ml) were higher than in non-allergic diabetics (mean 0.4 (SD 0.06) U/ml) but lower than in most other patients allergic to insulin (1.0-19.0 U/ml). Purified extract of Ascaris injected intravenously into guinea-pigs produced a reaction very similar to the anaphylactic reaction. INTRODUCTION: Data suggest an additional role of T cells in antibody-mediated rejections. In 2001 a protocol for AB0-incompatible kidney transplantation based on B-cell-depleting anti-CD20 antibody rituximab, antigen-specific blood group IgG immunoadsorption, intravenous immunoglobulins, and triple immunosuppression was introduced in Europe, which used induction therapy with the use of interleukin-2 receptor antibody (IL2-RA) basiliximab. The aim of this study was to determine the outcome of KTx when DSA was detected only against HLA Class II. To isolate the impact of anti-Class II DSA, we retrospectively analyzed 12 KTx recipients who at baseline had a positive B-cell flow cytometric crossmatch (FXM) and a negative T-cell FXM.
