[Immunogenicity and safety of varicella attenuated live vaccine with booster immunization at different intervals in children aged 7-12 years].

Objective: To evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of a booster dose of varicella attenuated live vaccine administered at different time intervals in Chinese children aged 7-12 years. Methods: This study was conducted in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, from October 2024 to October 2025 using an open-label design. Children aged 7 to 12 who had received the initial immunization of the attenuated live varicella vaccine were recruited as the research subjects. They were divided into 4 groups based on the time interval from primary immunization to booster immunization (3, 18, 36 and 60 months grou

Longitudinal monitoring of mRNA-vaccine-induced immunity against SARS-CoV-2.

BACKGROUND: Worldwide vaccination campaigns significantly reduced mortality caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection and diminished the devastating effects of the pandemic. The first approved vaccines are based on novel mRNA technology and elicit potent immune responses offering high levels of protection from severe disease. METHODS: Here we longitudinally assessed adaptive immune responses during a 12-month follow-up period after the initial immunization with 2 doses of mRNA vaccines and after the booster dose in blood and saliva. RESULTS: Our findings demonstrate a rapid waning of the anti-spike IgG

Can the booster interval for the tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) vaccine 'FSME-IMMUN' be prolonged? - A systematic review.

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) vaccines are effective and well tolerated. However, their acceptance and use by the public in endemic areas are suboptimal. To some extent this is due to the complicated dosing schedule requiring frequent boosters at variable intervals that even change with age. Simplification of the dosing schedule has failed so far as it is debated if the persistence of TBE virus (TBEV) antibodies is the only relevant factor for protection or if immune memory plays a decisive role as well. The objective here is to present the available evidence to determine the need for boosters

Trend of human rabies prophylaxis in developing countries: toward optimal rabies immunization.

Rabies is a fatal infectious disease. Because prevention is the key management for rabies, many vaccination regimens have been developed and used worldwide. The aims for developing rabies vaccination regimens include decreasing the number and amount of dosages, decreasing the duration and the number of clinical visits, and reducing cost. Interestingly, some intradermal (ID) regimens have proved to be as effective as the standard intramuscular (IM) regimens, and have been increasingly used in developing countries because they are less expensive. In this article, we reviewed rabies vaccines base

Yellow fever vaccination: is one dose always enough?

In March 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunisation (SAGE) considered a number of issues in order to update the WHO Position Paper on Yellow Fever (2003). A key conclusion of this review was that a single dose of yellow fever (YF) vaccine appears to confer life-long protection against YF disease, and that a booster dose of YF vaccine is not needed to maintain immunity. While the efficacy of YF vaccine in the majority of vaccine recipients is not in doubt, the WHO announcement is somewhat surprising as there are some limitations in the evidence

Revision of the Thai Red Cross intradermal rabies post-exposure regimen by eliminating the 90-day booster injection.

The Thai Red Cross intradermal post-exposure rabies prophylaxis regimen (TRC-ID) is being used in Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and is making inroads in India. It consists of two injections of 0.1 mL of any World Health Organization recommended tissue culture rabies vaccine intradermally at two sites on days 0, 3, 7, followed by one injection on days 28 and 90. Two decades of experience had shown that approximately 11% of 187,000 possibly rabies exposed subjects who received the TRC-ID schedule, did not return for the 90-day booster. No rabies deaths had, however, been reported from thi

Spontaneously reported adverse reactions after diphtheria-tetanus revaccination at 4-6 years of age--a comparison of two vaccines with different amounts of diphtheria toxoid.

On 1 January 1996, diphtheria-tetanus revaccination at the age of 5 years was implemented in the Danish Childhood Vaccination Programme. Initially, a combined DT vaccine containing 25 Lf diphtheria toxoid was used. Due to a high frequency of spontaneously reported adverse reactions, however, concerns were raised that the diphtheria dose was too high, and it was reduced to 6.25 Lf. This survey presents the rates of spontaneously reported adverse reactions following diphtheria-tetanus revaccinations of 4-6-year-old from 1996 to 2002. The change to the lower dose of diphtheria toxoid resulted in

Cell proliferation in the endolymphatic sac in situ after the rat Waldeyer ring equivalent immunostimulation.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: It has been recognized that immunological mechanisms could be involved in the pathogenesis of different inner ear disorders, such as progressive sensorineural hearing loss, Meniere's disease, and even sudden deafness. The endolymphatic sac acts as an immune control organ for the inner ear and has been considered as an effector site of the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue. The purpose of the study was to determine the potentially immunological relationship between endolymphatic sac and Waldeyer ring equivalent, one of the most important affector organs in mucosa-associat

[BCG vaccines for the prevention of tuberculosis in the world].

The BCG vaccines will celebrate the 100th anniversary of their discovery in a decade at the beginning of the next century since Albert Calmette and Camille Guerin had presented it before the Academie des Sciences in 1908. At present tuberculosis kills more people than any other infectious disease about 3 million people a year, including almost 300,000 children under 15, and is producing over 7,000 deaths and over 24,000 new cases every day. Therefore, WHO declared a global health emergency in 1993. More worse, recently multi-drug resistant tubercle bacilli are emerging rapidly making TB patien

[Shortening of interval between first and second TBE vaccination in asthmatic children (author's transl)].

37 children suffering from asthma had to be vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) with an interval of only 10 days between the first two vaccinations. Sufficient antibodies were detected in samples taken 14 days after the second injection. No differences were found between the results in this group of asthmatic children and in children who were vaccinated with the usual interval of 1 to 3 months elapsing between the first two injections. The asthmatic children tolerated the vaccination very well, moreover the indicence of side reactions was not different from that of the control gro

IFN-γ immune priming of macrophages in vivo induces prolonged STAT1 binding and protection against Cryptococcus neoformans.

Development of vaccines against opportunistic infections is difficult as patients most at risk of developing disease are deficient in aspects of the adaptive immune system. Here, we utilized an experimental immunization strategy to induce innate memory in macrophages in vivo. Unlike current trained immunity models, we present an innate memory-like phenotype in macrophages that is maintained for at least 70 days post-immunization and results in complete protection against secondary challenge in the absence of adaptive immune cells. RNA-seq analysis of in vivo IFN-γ primed macrophages revealed a

Immunogenicity and safety of a measles-mumps-rubella-varicella vaccine following a 4-week or a 12-month interval between two doses.

BACKGROUND: The MMRV combination vaccine, Priorix-Tetra™, is currently licensed in several European countries using a two-dose schedule in infants aged ≥9 months, with a preferred 6-week to 3-month interval between doses. This study was undertaken to generate safety and immunogenicity data for two doses of MMRV vaccine administered according to dose schedules using the shortest permitted interval of 4 weeks versus a longer interval of 12 months, which would allow flexible adaptation to local immunization calendars. METHODS: Healthy children aged 11-13 months were randomized (1:1:1) to receive

A mouse model of influenza protection.

A mouse model has been developed in order to examine the parts played by humoral and cellular mechanisms in influenza immunity. Protection is assessed in terms of the amount of virus detectable in the lungs within 48 h of challenge. This system has two major advantages over the more common mouse lethality models. It is no longer necessary to use a mouse-lethal strain of virus; and protection is measured within days rather than weeks of challenge. Thus it is possible to determine the ability of the immune system to limit infection at an early stage, as distinct from curing a pre-existing infect

Solving teenage and young mothers' childhood immunization hesitance and non-compliance through mobile immunization friendly service for working mothers in Ibadan, Nigeria- A research note.

Mobile Immunization for working mothers (SheVaccs) is an intervention targeted at working mothers in the informal markets of Ibadan to address problem of vaccine hesitance and drop-out among different categories of mother. These mothers have great responsibilities-keeping their homes stable and their children healthy. But these mothers have challenges of different magnitudes that prevented them from immunizing their children, and for teenage mothers they are faced with socio-cultural and socio-economic obstacles and have not responded positively to childhood immunization. In relation to these

Individual and socioeconomic factors associated with childhood immunization coverage in Nigeria.

INTRODUCTION: Immunization is the world's most successful and cost-effective public health intervention as it prevents over 2 million deaths annually. However, over 2 million deaths still occur yearly from Vaccine preventable diseases, the majority of which occur in sub-Saharan Africa. Nigeria is a major contributor of global childhood deaths from VPDs. Till date, Nigeria still has wild polio virus in circulation. The objective of this study was to identify the individual and socioeconomic factors associated with immunization coverage in Nigeria through a secondary dataset analysis of Nigeria
