Ratiometric fluorescence detection of dipicolinic acid based on Microporous Ln/melamine-terephthaladehyde schiff base networks complex.

Lanthanide-based fluorescence sensor in the detection of major Anthrax biomarker dipicolinic acid (DPA) is attracting wide attention. In this work, we proposed a new strategy for ratiometric fluorescence detection of DPA based on microporous Ln/melamine-terephthaladehyde Schiff base networks (Ln/MTSNW) complex for the first time. The microporous MTSNW was prepared by amine-aldehyde condensation between melamine and terephthaladehyde and presented lamellar and octahedral structure. Lanthanide ions, Eu3+ or Tb3+ were coordinated with N atoms of MTSNW to form Ln/MTSNW complex. The microporous Ln/

Predictors and clinical implications of shivering during therapeutic normothermia.

BACKGROUND: Shivering during induced normothermia (IN) remains a therapeutic limitation. We investigated potential risk factors and clinical implications of shivering during IN. METHODS: Post hoc analysis was performed on 24 patients enrolled in a clinical trial of an automated surface cooling system to achieve IN. Hyponatremia was defined as serum levels <136 mmol/L and hypomagnesaemia as levels <1.5 mg/dL. Continuous heat energy transfer (kcal/h) was averaged hourly. Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores were recorded every 2 h. Shivering status was documented hourly. Mixed effects modeling was u

Bystander effect on cell growth stimulation in neoplastic HSGc cells induced by heavy-ion irradiation.

The bystander effect on unirradiated neoplastic human salivary gland (HSGc) cells was investigated by co-culturing them with HSGc cells that had been irradiated with 290 MeV/u carbon beams of different linear energy transfer (LET) values. It was found that the plating efficiency and proliferation of the unirradiated recipient cells were increased and that these increases were related to the LET as well as the radiation dose. Exposure of HSGc cells to higher LET and higher dose was much more effective in enhancing the plating efficiency and proliferation of the unirradiated cells than exposure …

Shell-thickness-modulated electrochemiluminescence of colloidal quantum dots for ultrasensitive PSA detection.

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensors hold great promise for clinical diagnostics, yet their performance is often constrained by the limited efficiency and stability of available luminophores in complex biological matrices. Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) have emerged as attractive alternatives to conventional emitters, but a systematic understanding of how wavefunction engineering via core/shell architecture governs ECL behavior and thus biosensing performance remains elusive. Herein, we reveal that the asymmetric carrier distribution in QDs gives rise to a geometry-dependent ECL response. W

Opposite roles for p38MAPK-driven responses and reactive oxygen species in the persistence and resolution of radiation-induced genomic instability.

We report the functional and temporal relationship between cellular phenotypes such as oxidative stress, p38MAPK-dependent responses and genomic instability persisting in the progeny of cells exposed to sparsely ionizing low-Linear Energy Transfer (LET) radiation such as X-rays or high-charge and high-energy (HZE) particle high-LET radiation such as (56)Fe ions. We found that exposure to low and high-LET radiation increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels as a threshold-like response induced independently of radiation quality and dose. This response was sustained for two weeks, which is t…

A new spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of some tetracyclines based on their interfering effect on resonance fluorescence energy transfer.

A rapid, simple, inexpensive and highly sensitive spectrofluorimetric method was developed for the determination of trace amounts of some tetracyclines (TCs), namely tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH), oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTCH) and minocycline hydrochloride (MCH). Binding rhodamine B (RhB) to gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) resulted in quenching of the fluorescence of RhB by a resonance energy transfer (FRET) mechanism, with Au NPs as the energy acceptors. The presence of TCs caused the release of RhB molecules and recovered their fluorescence, and this was used as a basis for the quantit

Morphology-Engineered Gold Nanostars for Activatable NIR-II Imaging of Intracellular miR-21 with Deep Tissue Capability.

Near-infrared II (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) fluorescence imaging enables deep-tissue analysis, but conventional "always-on" probes suffer from high background that compromises the signal-to-background ratio for low-abundance targets. Activatable probe strategies could mitigate this issue, yet most existing designs rely on fluorescence resonance energy transfer with acceptors confined to the visible region, hampering efficient signal quenching in the NIR-II window. Here, we present a generalizable strategy based on morphology-engineered nanometal surface energy transfer (NSET) to construct a NIR-II

Development of a graphene oxide-based PEGylated fluorescent aptasensor with ultrahigh-sensitivity and anti-fouling properties for the detection of serum carcinoembryonic antigen levels.

The specificity and sensitivity of aptamer-based serum biomarker assays can be compromised by nonspecific adsorption of proteins. In this study, we used the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) aptamer as a model to develop a fluorescent aptasensor capable of specifically and sensitively detecting serum biomarkers. This aptasensor employs the good antifouling capability of polyethylene glycol 2000 (P2K) to enhance specificity and the good fluorescence resonance energy transfer capability of graphene oxide (GO) to improve sensitivity. The aptasensor was applied to determine pure CEA protein and CEA i

Cascade Fluorescent Sensors Based on Isothermal Signal Amplification for the Detection of Mercury and Silver Ions.

In this study, novel fluorescent DNA biosensors for mercury (Hg2+) and silver (Ag+) ions were developed based on thymine (T)- and cytosine (C)-rich recognition elements in combination with exonuclease III and a mismatch-catalyzed hairpin assembly (MCHA)-based cascade isothermal signal-amplification strategy. In the presence of the respective target analytes, the recognition element terminals form so-called T-Hg2+-T or C-Ag+-C structures, resulting in cleavage by Exo III and the release of the trigger strand for MCHA. This binds to the H1 hairpin, which is fluorescently labeled with carboxyfluo

Two-dimensional non-equilibrium model of gradient elution chromatography incorporating dual-mode gradients and core-shell particles.

A two-dimensional non-equilibrium (lumped kinetic) model is developed for non-isothermal, dual-mode gradient elution chromatography in columns packed with core-shell particles. The model couples mobile- and stationary-phase mass balances, fluid- and solid-phase energy balances, and a solvent volume fraction transport equation with a competitive multicomponent Langmuir isotherm, yielding nonlinear, convection-dominated partial differential equations. Three retention models, linear solvent strength (LSS), quadratic solvent strength (QSS), and Neue-Kuss, are incorporated with van't Hoff temperatu

Delay-Modulated Nonlinear Stochastic Mode Veering in Inertially Coupled Vibration Systems.

Mode veering is a modal-interaction phenomenon found in vibration systems. For inertially coupled structures, the combined influence of coupling delay, nonlinear restoring force, and stochastic coupling perturbation remain insufficiently understood. This work analyzes an inertially coupled two-coordinate prototype in which a discrete delay, a delayed cubic stiffness, and positive multiplicative stochastic modulation all enter through the same relative-coordinate coupling channel. We formulate the delayed linear spectrum through a quasi-polynomial characteristic equation. We also characterize t

A SERS/bFQICA/Colorimetric triple-mode LFIA method for rapid quantitative detection of meropenem.

Meropenem (MEM), a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic, has a narrow therapeutic window and high interindividual variability. Existing detection methods are often limited by complex operations, long turnaround times, and inadequate sensitivity. To overcome these challenges, this study developed a novel lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA) platform with synchronous triple-signal output for rapid and accurate MEM detection. A fluorescent membrane sensor was fabricated by integrating Rhodamine 6G (R6G) as a fluorescence donor into a nitrocellulose membrane. Isoniazid (INH, code 064) w

Ultrasensitive photoelectrochemical immunoassay for matrix metalloproteinase-2 detection based on CdS:Mn/CdTe cosensitized TiO2 nanotubes and signal amplification of SiO2@Ab2 conjugates.

An ultrasensitive photoelectrochemical sandwich immunoassay was developed to detect matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2, antigen, Ag) based on CdS:Mn/CdTe cosensitized TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2-NTs) and signal amplification of SiO2@Ab2 conjugates. Specifically, the TiO2-NTs electrode was first deposited with CdS:Mn by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction technique and then further coated with CdTe quantum dots (QDs) via the layer-by-layer method, forming TiO2-NTs/CdS:Mn/CdTe cosensitized structure, which was employed as a matrix to immobilize capture MMP-2 antibodies (Ab1); whereas, SiO2 na

Triple quenching strategy-based highly sensitive electrochemiluminescence sensor for perfluorooctanoic acid.

Quenching-based electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensing boasts prominent advantages for trace analysis, while single-mechanism systems have inherent flaws, making the development of efficient synergistic quenching strategies of great practical significance for ultra-trace perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) detection. In this work, a zinc-coordinated perylenetetracarboxylate complex ZnPTC with coordination-induced aggregation-enhanced ECL (AIECL) performance was successfully synthesized. By adopting a triple synergistic quenching strategy, a novel ECL sensing platform was constructed based on oxygen-

Supramolecular axial chirality in [N-I-N]+-type halogen bonded dimers.

Axial chiral molecules are extensively used as skeletons in ligands for asymmetric catalysis and as building blocks of chiroptical materials. Designing axial chirality at the supramolecular level potentially endows a material with dynamic tunability and adaptivity. In this work, for the first time, we have reported a series of halogen-bonded dimeric complexes with axial chirality that were formed by noncovalent bonds. The [N-I-N]+-type halogen bond is highly directional and freely rotatable with good linearity and ultra-high bond energy; this bond was introduced to couple quinoline moieties wi
