INTRODUCTION: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are uncommon mesenchymal neoplasms and are particularly rare in the female genital tract. Doege-Potter syndrome is a paraneoplastic syndrome involving SFT-associated hypoglycemia. We report, for the first time, on a broad ligament SFT with Doege-Potter syndrome; additionally, we review 30 cases of women with SFTs reported in the literature.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 37-year-old woman who presented with life-threatening hypoglycemia and a pelvic mass (16 × 15 × 15 cm).
DIAGNOSES: The patient was diagnosed with broad ligament SFT with Doege-Potter syndrom

We report a rare case of leiomyomatosis in iliac lymph nodes, which was found in a woman operated with a diagnosis as keratinizing epidermoid carcinoma of the cervix. A 39-year-old Japanese female, married, who had received hormonal therapy in her past history, visited the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kinki University Hospital, with a chief complaint of bloody discharge. Colposcopy and biopsy suggested a diagnosis of keratinizing epidermoid carcinoma of the cervix. A radical hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with pelvic lymph nodes dissection was performed. Histopa

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) of oral cavity is an extremely uncommon malignancy. Less than 15 cases have been reported since 1973 though none of them describes a distant metastasis. We present a rare case of MPNST of the tongue who presented with features of hypoglossal nerve palsy. Incisional biopsy showed a malignant spindle cell tumor in the sub-epithelial connective tissue. The tumor cells were immune-positive for S-100. He underwent surgery followed by adjuvant chemo-radiation. Later the disease recurred in the form of isolated pelvic bone metastasis. Ovarian leiomyomas are rare benign smooth muscle tumors, accounting for <1% of all ovarian neoplasms. While most commonly found in premenopausal women, their occurrence in postmenopausal women is rare and often raises concerns about malignancy. We report a unique case of ovarian leiomyoma torsion in a 73-year-old postmenopausal woman who presented with postmenopausal bleeding and acute pelvic pain. Imaging studies initially suggested an ovarian mass and surgical exploration revealed a twisted mass, which was histologically confirmed as a leiomyoma. Immunohistochemical analysis of the tumor dem

Representing 0.43% of all urinary bladder neoplasms, leiomyomas are rare mesenchymal tumours with a benign pathophysiology. There have only been approximately 250 cases published on this subject, necessitating further inquiry into this disease and effective management protocols. Treatment options may include a broad spectrum of surgical interventions, from minimally invasive resection to radical cystectomy, depending on the location, size and symptoms associated with the tumour. To date, few cases of leiomyoma have resulted in recurrence after removal, and zero have reported malignant transfor

Avulsion injuries of the pelvis are common sports-related findings in skeletally immature adolescent patients. They usually present as an avulsion of the unfused apophysis, resulting from forced muscular contraction during typical athletic movements or from chronic traction injuries. Acute apophyseal avulsion injuries are usually easily detected with radiography. Occasionally, advanced imaging such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging is required in order to detect or fully assess the extent of injury. Chronic injuries can mimic aggressive entities, such as neoplasms and may thus cause

The purpose of this pictorial essay is to highlight atypical and unusual presentations of endometriosis that can be missed or misinterpreted in the emergency setting. Although endometriosis is a chronic disease, it can present acutely with symptoms and imaging mimicking more common acute gynecologic, gastrointestinal, or urinary conditions as well as neoplasms. Furthermore, patients may present emergently prior to an established diagnosis of endometriosis. Here, we present a range of cases including endometrioma rupture and infection, urinary tract involvement and obstruction, bowel obstructio

INTRODUCTION: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a rare clinical entity with higher incidence in women (3:1) and an age of presentation between 20 and 40 years. The hip is a rare site of appearance, being involved in only 15% of all cases.
CASE REPORT: 47-year-old male with 10 years of evolution characterized by a limited range of motion, pain associated with an increase in volume and shortening of the pelvic limb. Imaging studies showed destruction of the hip joint and extension to the pelvis. The histopathology report described pigmented villonodular synovitis. His final treatment w

Paragangliomas (PGLs) are rare neuroendocrine neoplasms of the autonomic nervous system dispersed from the skull base to the pelvic floor. We reported an extremely rare case with coexisting PGL of the retroperitoneum and urinary bladder. The patient complained of episodes of severe headache and palpitation during micturition, with a 1-year history of uncontrolled hypertension. The (131)I-metaiodobenzylguanidine ((131)I-MIBG) scintigraphy revealed high uptake in both of the retroperitoneum and urinary bladder mass accompanied with increasing 24 hour urinary norepinephrine and epinephrine. Radiotherapy is one of the pillars in the multimodal therapy of sarcomas of the extremities or pelvis/retroperitoneum. It can be delivered prior to or following surgery. Novel radiation techniques, such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy using high-energy photons or protons, contribute to the reduction of acute and late toxicities. This review article summarizes these concepts.

Dogs with benign intra-pelvic rectal or vaginal masses show symptoms indicating compression on the adjacent organs. Clinical signs usually develop late when the lesion is large enough to interfere functionally. The dogs were referred for severe fecal and/or urinary tenesmus. The data collected included signalment, clinical signs, results of physical examination, pre-surgical diagnostic tests, surgical technique used, surgical complications and histological findings. Digital rectal and vaginal examination allowed the detection of a mass occupying space in the pelvic cavity in all patients. Abdo

Goblet cell adenocarcinoma (GCA) is a rare appendiceal neoplasm that typically metastasizes to the peritoneum and pelvic organs, with no reported gastric involvement. We report a 72-year-old man with multiple comorbidities presenting with recurrent small bowel obstruction. Imaging revealed a cecal and a gastric mass; colonoscopy confirmed poorly differentiated right-sided adenocarcinoma. Surgical resection with intraoperative biopsies identified high-grade appendiceal GCA infiltrating the cecum, mesentery, and gastric wall. Immunohistochemical staining showed cytokeratin 7 negativity and cytok

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) is a germ cell tumor derived from primitive germ layers. While SCTs are a common neoplasm in infants and children, they are very rare in adults.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a 24-year-old Afghan woman with a severe gluteal deformity, who suffered from pelvic pain and difficulty in sitting and walking.
CLINICAL DISCUSSION: SCT is an important differential diagnosis for a presacral mass that can be identified through performing both magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography scans. When the lesion grows posteriorly to the cocc

This case report is about a 47-year-old patient, who was diagnosed with intracardiac intravenous leiomyomatosis and received treatment at our institution. Intravenous leiomyomatosis is a rare, histologically benign, uterine neoplasm, which is characterized by non-invasive intravascular proliferation of smooth muscle cells. Intravenous leiomyomatosis arises from the myometrium and, in its most extensive form, can reach the heart via the pelvic veins and the inferior vena cava, causing hemodynamic complications. Treatment of choice is the complete resection of the tumor, even though there is no

BACKGROUND: Myxoid leiomyosarcoma of the uterus is an extremely rare neoplasm. In young women with this disease, fertility should be considered in the treatment protocol.
CASE: A 20-year-old woman presented with a huge pelvic mass originating from the uterine wall and showing a histopathology of myxoid leiomyosarcoma. Five and one-half years after laparotomy, the recurrent tumor was found and removed. Two years after the second operation, she became pregnant, and delivered a healthy baby by cesarean section. Multiple recurrent masses were evident and removed at cesarean section. She is alive

We present an unusual case of mucinous cystadenoma presenting with severe virilisation in a postmenopausal woman. A 71-year-old woman was referred to our outpatient endocrinology clinic because of rapidly progressive androgenic alopecia, clitoromegaly and male pattern pubic hair growth for 1 year. Her medical history was unremarkable. The serum testosterone level was 3.35 µg/L (normal range, <0.4 µg/L), and the dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate level was 267 µg/L (normal range, 100-800 µg/L). MRI of the abdomen revealed a 4×4 cm cystic ovarian mass. A bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed

Background and Objectives: Neoplasms of the vagina are rare and account for 1-2% of all tumors of the female reproductive system. Primary neoplasms of the vagina are most often carcinomas originating from squamous or glandular epithelium. Of the primary glandular tumors, clear cell, endometrioid, and serous adenocarcinomas are the most common types, while mucinous and mesonephric types are very rare. Mucinous adenocarcinoma is histologically subclassified into endocervical and intestinal types. We add to the existing literature another case of an extremely rare gynecological neoplasm-primary v

The introduction of genomic studies has enabled assessment of the clonality of synchronous tumours involving the ovary and other sites in the female genital tract in a definitive way. This has led to the abandonment of conventional approaches to primary site assignment, and the recognition that most such synchronous neoplasms are clonally related single tumours with metastatic spread, rather than independent primary tumours. These discoveries have implications for diagnostic practice, analogous to the gradual change over the last few decades in our approach to mucinous neoplasms of the ovary m

Primary lymphoma of bone (PLB) accounts for 3% to 7% of primary neoplasms of bone and must be distinguished from more common bone tumors in the pediatric population such as osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, and other small round blue cell tumors. In this study, pathology databases from 4 institutions were queried for PLB in individuals 1 to 21 years old. A total of 54 cases of PLB were identified, including 41 diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL, 76%), 8 B-lymphoblastic lymphomas (BLL, 15%), 3 anaplastic large cell lymphomas (ALCL, 6%), and 2 low-grade follicular lymphomas (4%). Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP)is a clinical condition caused by ruptured mucinous tumors like appendix and ovaries, and large amounts of mucus fill the abdominal cavity. We experienced a case of PMP presented with an inguinal hernia. A 62-year-old man complained of a bulge in the left inguinal region. The results of the test was PMP caused by ruptured appendiceal myxoma. After intraperitoneal chemotherapy, we performed surgery. We performed right hemicolectomy, low anterior resection, peritoneum excision of the pelvic space, right diaphragm resection, omentectomy, cholecystectomy and splenectomy
