This is a survey of 120 children for scabies and head lice infestations in a welfare home in Pulau Pinang. Children from this welfare home (Rumah Kanak-Kanak Taman Bakti, Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang) were randomly selected. Majority of them were Malays (72.5%) and the rest were Indians. The infestation rates were highest in the 10-12 years age group with 46% and 70% for scabies and head lice respectively. Head lice was more commonly seen in girls (65%) than boys (29%). This article discusses the epidemiology and clinical presentation of carpal tunnel syndrome and the electrodiagnostic approach to evaluating patients with possible carpal tunnel syndrome. The selection of the best sensory testing protocol and use of motor conduction studies and needle electromyography are discussed. Interpretation requires care, particularly in light of the risks of false-positive testing results and possible technical errors.

The prevalence of HIV infection among individuals referred from faith-based organizations (FBOs) in south-eastern Nigeria for mandatory pre-marital HIV screening was determined. Of the total of 319 individuals (148 males, 171 females) screened, 25 (7.8%, 95%CI: 4.9-10.7%) were confirmed HIV-positive, comprising 13 (8.8%, 95%CI: 4.2-13.4%) males and 12 (7%, 95%CI: 3.2-10.8%) females. Patients with UC are at increased risk of CRC, but a series of population-based studies published within the past 5 years suggest that this risk has decreased over time. The crude annual incidence rate of CRC in UC ranges from approximately 1 in 500 to 1 in 1600. In some cohorts, an elevated risk of CRC relative to the general population can no longer be demonstrated. OBJECTIVES: To reassess the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of poikiloderma of Civatte (PC).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty consecutive patients with PC. Evaluation included history taking and physical examination. Epidemiological and clinical parameters were recorded and analysed. The literature from 1923 until today, was reviewed thoroughly.

Analysis of 325 patients (182 males, 143 females) of mycologically proven tinea capitis (TC) seen over a period of two years from January 2001--December 2002 in the Farwaniya region of Kuwait is presented in this study. Cerebrovascular diseases in patients between 15 and 40 years old are not a frequent subject in Latin-American literature, especially when focusing on neuropathology. Fifty-eight cases of meningococcal pneumonia were included in this review. Fifty cases previously described in the literature from 1974 through 1998 and 8 new cases were included in this series. The authors, using the Cancer Registry data of S. Antonio General Hospital in Oporto, selected the cancer cases from 1981 to 1993. BACKGROUND: The epidemiology of Whipple's disease (WD) is obscure. To obtain basic data, we performed an evaluation of WD patients in Germany.
METHODS: Information was collected from 110 WD patients diagnosed during 1965-95 at 5 institutions in different regions of Germany. Four items were evaluated: 1) year in which the diagnosis was made; 2) residence and 3) age at the time of diagnosis; and 4) sex.
