This study was conducted to determine the serum concentration of zinc in children with acute pyelonephritis. Serum zinc levels of 60 children with acute pyelonephritis and 60 healthy children were compared. Acute pyelonephritis was diagnosed using Tc-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) renal scan. Serum zinc levels were measured by the atomic absorption flame spectrophotometry. The purpose of the present study was to make a preliminary evaluation of blood lead levels in school-aged children from three towns of southwestern Sardinia, Portoscuso, S. Antioco and Calasetta, the first of which is very close to a large industrial complex. The concentration of plasma zinc and copper were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry in 58 Nigerian women at various times in pregnancy and compared with those of 11 non-pregnant controls. The results showed 67.5% decrease in zinc and 100% increase in copper over non-pregnant levels at the end of pregnancy. Two new cinnamic acid derivatives, thymofolinoates A (1) and B (2) have been isolated from the chloroform soluble fraction of Euphorbia thymifolia and their structures assigned from 1H and 13C NMR spectra, DEPT and by 2 D COSY, HMQCand H MBC experiments. A method was developed for simultaneous determination of oxytetracycline (OTC), chlortetracycline, tetracycline, and doxycycline levels in cow milk, serum, and urine by capillary electrophoresis (CE). The tetracyclines (TCs) were extracted specifically with a metal-chelating affinity column. Extracts were then applied to C18 cartridges treated with dimethyldichlorosilane, and the TCs were eluted with ethanol. Salt-free sample residues were run on CE with a diode array detector at 370 nm.
