INTRODUCTION: Unfractionated heparin (UFH) potentiates platelet aggregation induced by some agonists. P2Y12 and P2Y1 receptors play a major role in amplifying platelet aggregation. We assessed the ability of cangrelor, a selective P2Y12 antagonist, A2P5P, a selective P2Y1 antagonist, and aspirin to block the potentiating effects of heparin.

We report the kinetic characterization of a previously unidentified pyruvate kinase (PK) activity in extracts from Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites. This activity was about 74% of the activity of pyruvate phosphate dikinase. EhPK differed from most PKs in that its pH optimum was 5.5-6.5 and was inhibited by high PEP concentrations (1-5mM); these are concentrations at which PK is usually assayed. INTRODUCTION: Pseudocyst formation commonly follows pancreatitis, but erosion into the spleen is rare and potentially life threatening. We report a case of an intrasplenic pancreatic pseudocyst treated laparoscopically with distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy.
METHODS: A 50 year old male with a history of chronic alcoholic pancreatitis, presented with abdominal pain for 3 months, worsening over the past several days. A CT scan showed a broad 9 cm subcapsular fluid collection suspicious for an intra-splenic pseudocyst. The patient underwent laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy.

Changes in inositol lipid and diacylglycerol metabolism have been analysed in Daudi lymphoma cells treated up to 24 h with human DNA recombinant interferon alpha. Results showing a different response of nuclear phosphoinositides and diacylglycerol, compared to whole cells, suggest that the intranuclear signalling system activated by interferon in Daudi cells involves nuclear inositol lipid metabolism. A well-characterized clone of Daudi cells selected for resistance to the antiproliferative action of interferon provided controls for the specificity of results.
