PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine what proteins are present in the ciliary body (CB). To accomplish this, we conducted a proteomic analysis of the CB of cynomolgus monkeys. We also determined the location of the proteins in CB by immunohistology.

Differential diagnosis between a melanoma and a pseudomelanoma requires many years of experience and ocular studies, and requires paying attention to the smallest details. The case is presented of a 57 year-old male with an adenoma of the ciliary body pigment epithelium that was treated with an enucleation of the eye due to a suspicion of a choroidal melanoma.

The adenoma of the nonpigmented ciliary epithelium is a benign rare tumor, which may present with different clinical characteristics and requires resection along with histopathologic analysis and the identification of specific immunohistochemical markers for an accurate diagnosis. Here, we report a case series of 4 patients in a Mexican mestizo population with this diagnosis, their clinical features, the ultrasound imaging characteristics and the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings.
