Between 1987 and 1994 we followed 22 patients with giant cell tumors involving the long bones. Their average age was 31 years (range 17-50 years). Five patients had grade II tumors and the other 17 grade III lesions. The average volume of lesions after curettage was 231 ml (range 56-450 ml). All of the patients underwent a modified excisional curettage, and the cavity was filled with deep-frozen allogenic corticocancellous bone graft with supplementary fixation. OBJECTIVE: This study describes the radiographic, CT, and MR imaging features of surface osteomas of the appendicular skeleton in four patients without Gardner's syndrome or tuberous sclerosis and reviews the incidence and management options of this uncommon tumor.

The article reported 17 cases of confirmed or suspected secondary bone cyst originating from cystic degeneration of pre-existed tumor or tumor-like lesions. Eighteen cases of osteogenic sarcoma of the long bones in the extremities were analyzed in this paper. The pathological basis of the X-ray signs was explained. It was suggested that solitary calcific shadow appearing near the knee joint in young individuals should alert the radiologist to the possibility of osteogenic sarcoma. BACKGROUND: Denosumab therapy is often used to reduce skeletal-related events in metastatic bone disease. On the other hand, there have been some instances of atypical femoral fracture in patients with metastatic bone disease treated with denosumab. Twenty-one skeletally immature patients with a Grade IIB osteosarcoma about the knee were treated with a modified Van Nes rotationplasty. Fourteen patients were followed up for 4 to 10.5 years (mean followup, 8 years). Functional assessment using Enneking's method showed all had good or excellent results. No patient thought that the reconstruction affected their ability to achieve recreational, sporting, or career goals. The reconstruction is durable and is not associated with an increase in late complications.

A technique of improved free vascularized fibula grafting for bone defects up to 15 cm in length is presented with three illustrative cases. By dividing a harvested free fibula graft at its midpoint without dividing its vascular pedicle, two vascularized bone lengths are produced that require only one set of anastomoses. This folded fibula provides twice the cross-sectional area of a single fibula transfer and allows biomechanically improved graft placement. This technique has been successfully used in long bone defects of the upper and lower limbs.

Bypass procedures in patients with gynecologic malignancies have been used rarely. Successful external iliac-femoral bypass to avoid amputation in a patient with a rupture of the femoral artery due to recurrent vulvar cancer is reported. It is suggested that vascular bypass procedures may be considered as alternatives to surgical amputation in the management of a few selected patients with recurrent vulvar cancer and vascular injury.

Eighty-eight osteoarticular distal femoral allografts and 68 proximal tibial allografts have been transplanted at the authors' institution from 1958 to 1970. BACKGROUND: The femur is the most common long bone affected by metastatic carcinoma. We report our experience regarding treatment of metastatic femoral fracture using femoral head prosthesis (FHP) or intramedullary nailing (IM nail) with augmentation by polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA).
