The intraoperative ultrasonic investigation (IOUSI) of bile tracts was used during laparoscopic cholecystectomy for chronic (53 patients) and acute (25 patients) calculous cholecystitis and during 74 open operations in patients with mechanical jaundice. In half of the cases IOUSI was combined with intraoperative cholangiography (IOCG). PURPOSE: To establish the diagnostic role of imaging by ultrasound for the diagnosis of uveal effusion syndrome.
METHODS: Using ultrasonic imaging features as the main criteria for evaluation, the recorded data from 16 patients with presumed uveal effusion seen between 1994 and 2000 were reviewed and analysed for clinical manifestations and current diagnostic suggestions. The reaction of C70 by ultrasonication with various oxidants such as 3-chloroperoxy benzoic acid (Fluka 99%), 4-methyl morpholine N-oxide (Aldrich 97%), chromium (VI) oxide (Aldrich 99.9%), and oxone monopersulfate compound, at room temperature causes the oxidation of fullerene [C70(O)n] (n = 1-2 or n = 1). BACKGROUND: We evaluated the use of the ultrasonically activated (harmonic) scalpel (HS) in the performance of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC).
METHODS: A total of 282 consecutive patients, 64 of whom had acute cholecystitis at the time of surgery, underwent LC using HS dissection. Indications for surgery included chronic pain (180 cases), episodes of acute cholecystitis (89 cases), pancreatitis (five cases), and jaundice (seven cases). A new method for measuring the anterior translation in the shoulder joint by dynamic ultrasound was evaluated. We placed a 3.5-MHz transducer on the shoulder anteriorly. By using 3 bony landmarks, we then measured the anterior translation of the humeral head with a force of 90 N applied posteriorly. We performed such measurements in 20 subjects with healthy shoulders and in 20 patients with unilateral shoulder instability. BACKGROUND: Atherosclerotic carotid artery plaques can be classified on the basis of their ultrasound appearance according to the pattern of echolucency and echogenicity. The most commonly used classification is the one described by Gray-Weale who defined 4 plaque types.
METHODS: The images of the carotid and femoral arteries of 9 healthy volunteers and 21 non-insulin dependent diabetic patients were analysed. We describe five patients with hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) that was related to using home ultrasonic humidifiers. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the frequency and discuss the mechanisms and the prognostic value of sonographic anomalies observed during the surveillance of seroconversion for toxoplasmosis during pregnancy.
