The patient experience of relapsed refractory multiple myeloma and perspectives on emerging therapies.

BACKGROUND: Relapsed refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) is a disease that is nonresponsive or progressive on therapy, and although patients can achieve remission, relapse is common. As more treatment options become available for multiple myeloma (MM), it is important to understand patients' experiences of current and emerging therapies. AIMS: This study aimed to better understand patient experiences with treatment and therapies for MM using qualitative interviews and patient-reported information (PRI) shared on social media. METHODS: Semistructured qualitative interviews were conducted with

Socioeconomic and physical health status changes after visual impairment in Korea using difference-in-difference estimations.

This study analyzed the impact of visual impairment on socioeconomic and physical health status and its heterogeneity by severity of visual impairment. We used nationally representative cohort data based on Korean national health insurance claims (2002-2013), which were extracted for 11,030 persons (2206 visually impaired, 8824 control). This was restructured as monthly data for each person (person-month). Multivariate and ordered logistic regressions were conducted, and the pre-impairment status between the visually impaired and non-visually impaired people was adjusted by difference-in-diffe

Symptom burden, psychological distress, and health-related quality of life in cancer survivors with pelvic late radiation tissue injuries

Abstract Purpose Curative radiotherapy for cancer may lead to severe late radiation tissue injuries (LRTIs). However, limited knowledge exists about pelvic cancer survivors’ LRTI symptoms, distress, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). We sought to assess the symptom burden, distress, and HRQOL in survivors with established pelvic LRTIs compared to norm populations and to investigate the relation between these factors. Methods Cancer survivors referred for treatment of established pelvic LRTIs were recruited nationwide. LTRIs were assessed with the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composi

Incidence of skeletal-related events among multiple myeloma patients in the United States at oncology clinics: Observations from real-world data.

Skeletal-related events (SREs) are common bone complications in multiple myeloma (MM). However, there are few real-world reports of their incidence. In this study, a database of oncology electronic health records was linked to administrative claims data. Patients identified were aged ≥18 years and newly diagnosed with MM, had ≥1 clinic visit within 1 month of diagnosis, and ≥1 year of follow-up after diagnosis. The study period was January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2016. 343 patients were included, 35% of whom had a baseline history of any SRE. During a median follow-up of 25.7 months, 34% of pa

Semi-Structured Clinical Interview for the assessment of CSB (SSCI-CSB), интервью, которое собирает информацию о проявлениях, симптомах и клиническом течении КСП. Цель этого исследования состояла в том, чтобы проанализировать его надежность и обоснованность в выборке пациентов, нуждающихся в лечении некон

Evaluating nurse preferences for a novel on-body delivery system vs. manual syringes for large-volume subcutaneous drug administration: a survey study.

While nurses report challenges with the manual administration of large-volume subcutaneous drugs, these challenges and potential solutions are not captured in the literature. In this cross-sectional study, 45 nurses with experience administering large-volume subcutaneous biologics completed an 18-item survey about preferences for syringes vs. on-body delivery systems. 100% responded that an on-body delivery system seemed easy to learn and use and preferable to syringes. In a drug delivery scenario including comprehensive administration details and assuming equivalent safety and efficacy, 97.78

Experience of life quality from patients with aplastic anemia: a descriptive qualitative study.

BackgroundDespite the increasing incidence of aplastic anemia in China, few studies have explored its effect on the patients' quality of life from the perspective of these patients. In fact, patients with aplastic disorder live with the disease for a long time, and need to face a variety of difficult realities, including multiple disease symptoms and drug side effects, heavy burden of medical costs, difficulties in social reintegration, and negative emotional distress. Therefore, this study used descriptive qualitative research to explore the direct and rich quality-of-life experiences of pati

Treatment preferences of patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma in the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, and Spain: results from a discrete choice experiment.

IntroductionNewer treatment options for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) with efficacy and safety profiles that differ from traditional therapies have facilitated personalized management strategies to optimize patient outcomes. In the context of such personalized management, understanding how treatment characteristics influence patients' preferences is essential. This study assessed patients' preferences for RRMM treatment attributes and determined trade-offs between potential benefits, administration procedures, and adverse effects.MethodsPatients' preferences were evaluated using

Experiences and preferences for psychosocial support: a qualitative study exploring the views of patients with chronic haematological cancers.

OBJECTIVES: Patients with chronic haematological cancers are often treated on a relapsing-remitting pathway, which may extend for many years. Such diagnoses are associated with uncertainties that often cause anxiety and distress, meaning patients (and families) are susceptible to potentially prolonged emotional difficulties, across the cancer journey. Experiences and preferences regarding psychosocial needs and support over time are relatively unexplored, which this study aimed to address. SETTING AND DESIGN: Set within the UK's Haematological Malignancy Research Network (an ongoing populatio
