Multicentric giant cell tumor of bone is the rare variant of a lesion that is relatively common in a skeletally mature population. An otherwise healthy 13-year-old boy presenting with this entity was followed up for 6 years. During this period, the patient was diagnosed with and treated for six individual lesions. One recurrence required resection, Ilizarov bone lengthening, and subsequent ankle arthrodesis. He remains fully active and free of distant metastasis.

Five cases of congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia successfully treated by a free vascularised fibular graft are described. Follow-up ranged from 5 to 34 months with a mean of 17.5 months. The technique, which includes radical excision of abnormal bone and soft tissue around the pseudarthrosis, also permits primary bone lengthening, and correction of deformity. The early results indicate that satisfactory bony union is achieved in a relatively short period of time.

Seven patients with craniosynostosis (mean age 8 years, Apert syndrome, n = 4, Crouzon's disease, n = 3) underwent lengthening of the skull by gradual bone distraction. We reviewed the results of distraction osteogenesis of 114 femora and 147 tibiae that had been lengthened to treat a variety of diagnoses. The femora had been lengthened an average of eleven centimeters (range, 3.5 to 17.0 centimeters), or 48 per cent (range, 8 to 86 per cent) of the original femoral length. The original technique of in plus high tibial osteotomy with the use of CZ-2 (after Czyrny) external distractor/compressor in proximal tibia varus deformity is presented. BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Relative anterior spinal overgrowth was proposed as a generalized growth disturbance and a potential initiator of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). However, anterior lengthening has also been observed in neuromuscular (NM) scoliosis and was shown to be restricted to the apical areas and located in the intervertebral discs, not in the bone.
