Allergic contact dermatitis to methacrylates in ECG electrode dots.

Acrylates are used widely in acrylic nails, dental restorative materials, paint, varnish, printing ink, adhesives, glue, orthopaedic prostheses, bone cement and diathermy pads. This is the first case of allergic contact dermatitis to methacrylates in electrocardiogram electrode dots reported in the literature.

In Situ Straightening of a Bent Tibiofemoral Intramedullary Nail: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Background: Intramedullary nailing is considered the gold standard for the surgical management of diaphyseal long bone fractures of the lower extremity. A rare complication following intramedullary nailing of a femur or tibia fracture is periprosthetic fracture following secondary trauma with deformation of the nail itself. We present a case of a 51-year-old male with a long history of prior left knee arthrodesis with a tibiofemoral nail who sustained a work injury resulting in a proximal tibia fracture and bent tibiofemoral nail. Clinically, he presented with significant varus and procurvatum

Sarcoidosis: radiographic manifestations in the nails and distal phalanges.

Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disease which can affect multiple organ systems. Clinical and radiologic manifestations depend on the organ system involved and the chronicity of disease. Nail involvement in sarcoidosis is rare, but is clinically relevant as it indicates chronic systemic disease. Nail abnormalities can be identified radiographically, and when seen in patients with known or suspected sarcoidosis, should prompt careful evaluation of the underlying bone for osseous involvement. We describe a case of sarcoidosis with radiographic findings in the nails and distal phalangeal tufts, wh

[Panniculitis ossificans and review of the literature].

Four cases of panniculitis ossificans were treated in 1978-1994. They all occurred at the distal phalanx. Pain, swell beneath nails, ulcer, pyorrhea, clark red skin were observed. X-ray examination of 2 cases showed dense shadows in the solft tissue of the distal phalanx. Pathologically the lesion was flatten-round, and separated with the bone. The cut surface was gray and sandy. Histological pictures were the same in 4 cases, namely atrophy of subcutaneons adipose tissue, the osteoid and new bone were seen. Two cases formed the cartilage and the background showed small vessels, proliferative

[Recent advances in treatment of aseptic femoral shaft nonunion].

OBJECTIVE: To review the recent advances in treatment of aseptic femoral shaft nonunion. METHODS: The clinical studies about the treatments of aseptic femoral shaft nonunion in recent years were widely reviewed and analyzed. RESULTS: There are several surgical methods for aseptic femoral shaft nonunion. Due to uncertain clinical outcome, dynamization of nail should be carefully selected. The exchange nailing is suitable for the hypertrophic nonunion of the isthmal femoral shaft fracture. The exchange lateral plating is suitable for nonunion with obvious malformation. However, wave plate or d

Sodium butyrate enhances titanium nail osseointegration in ovariectomized rats by inhibiting the PKCα/NOX4/ROS/NF-κB pathways.

BACKGROUND: Elevated levels of oxidative stress as a consequence of estrogen deficiency serve as a key driver of the onset of osteoporosis (OP). In addition to increasing the risk of bone fractures, OP can reduce the bone volume proximal to titanium nails implanted to treat these osteoporotic fractures, thereby contributing to titanium nail loosening. Sodium butyrate (NaB) is a short-chain fatty acid produced by members of the gut microbiota that exhibits robust antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. METHODS: OP fracture model rats parameters including bone mineral density (BMD), new b

Nail Sarcoidosis with and without Systemic Involvement: Report of Two Cases.

The most commonly seen nail change in sarcoidosis, often associated with chronic systemic disease, is onychodystrophy. Imaging of hands, feet and chest is of paramount importance when nail sarcoidosis is suspected, for evaluation of bone cysts and pulmonary involvement, respectively. We report 2 cases of sarcoidosis that developed nail involvement - one with pulmonary disease, and the other without any evidence of systemic involvement, which is very rare.

Intramedullary nailing in the treatment of open fractures of the tibia and fibula.

Intramedullary nailing of thirty acute displaced open fractures of the tibia and fibula resulted in union with only one superficial infection. The low incidence of sepsis is attributed to the use of the curved malleable Hodgkinson tibial nail which requires no reaming, renders the operation less difficult and traumatic, and interferes minimally with bone vascularity. Fibular nailing was an effective means of stabilizing nine of the twelve fractures close to the ankle joint.

Using the simple locking intramedullary (SLIM) system for bone deformity stabilization: A retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is characterized by bone fragility and deformities. Treating long bone fractures and deformities in OI patients typically involves intramedullary (IM) rods. The Simple Locking Intramedullary (SLIM) nail is a novel surgical device developed to address challenges in patients with narrow medullary canals, which are unsuitable for larger telescoping rods. This study aims to evaluate the outcomes and complications associated with SLIM nail use in pediatric patients with OI. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted at our institution, analyzing 23

Nail Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis: A Rare Case Series of Two Patients With Single-System and Multisystem Disease Presenting With Nail Lesions.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare myeloid neoplastic disorder driven by somatic MAPK pathway mutations, most commonly BRAFV600E, characterized by clonal proliferation of CD1a+/CD207+ dendritic cells forming granulomatous lesions in various tissues. Nail involvement is an uncommon but clinically significant manifestation, often associated with multisystem disease and a potentially poorer prognosis. We report 2 pediatric cases of LCH presenting with nail changes as the initial clinical feature. Case 1, a 2-year-old boy, was presented with longitudinal grooving, onycholysis, subungual

Surgical treatment of distal tibia non-unions with a retrograde intramedullary nail as a therapy option to prevent amputation.

Compared to other long bones, non-unions of the tibia after fractures are more likely. Due to surgical debridement, the residual bone stock in the distal part of the bone may be insufficient for adequate fixation of an implant. Thus, treatment with a retrograde nail with the additional performance of an arthrodesis of the hindfoot may be an alternative. The aim of this study was to examine the consolidation and reinfection rates of non-unions of the distal tibia treated with a retrograde arthrodesis nail. A total of 27 patients between 2010 and 2018 were included according to our inclusion cri

Association of Ilizarov's technique and intramedullary rodding in the treatment of congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia.

PURPOSE: Many surgical techniques have been published on how to treat congenital pseudoarthrosis of the tibia (CPT). We combined Ilizarov's fixator with intramedullary nailing of the tibia and developed a procedure which combines the advantages of both methods: Ilizarov's high fusion rate with alignment control and the protection against refracture provided by the intramedullary nail. The results of this approach are presented and discussed. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Seven boys and three girls aged 3-14 years (mean age 8 years 2 months) were treated using our combined technique. In six cases, the

Intramedullary bone pedestal formation contributing to femoral shaft fracture nonunion: A case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Femoral shaft fracture is a commonly encountered orthopedic injury that can be treated operatively with a low overall delayed/nonunion rate. In the case of delayed union after antegrade or retrograde intramedullary nail fixation, fracture dynamization is often attempted first. Nonunion after dynamization has been shown to occur due to infection and other aseptic etiologies. We present a unique case of diaphyseal femoral shaft fracture nonunion after dynamization due to intramedullary cortical bone pedestal formation at the distal tip of the nail. CASE SUMMARY: A 37-year-old male e
