Rifapentine- and moxifloxacin-containing short-course regimens for mild spinal tuberculosis: study protocol for a multicenter, randomized, non-inferiority phase II clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Spinal tuberculosis is the most common form of osteoarticular infection, with recommended anti-tuberculosis treatment durations typically being long (9-18 months), even for mild cases, increasing the risks of drug resistance, toxicity, and poor patient adherence. This study aims to explore, in patients with mild spinal tuberculosis, whether a new combination of anti-tuberculosis drugs (containing rifapentine and moxifloxacin) could shorten the treatment duration. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This trial is an open-label, randomized, controlled, non-inferiority trial comparing the efficacy

Mechanism research of Tollip negative feedback regulation in TLR4 signaling pathways based on spinal tuberculosis: Detection of Tollip and NF-κB expression levels.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The emergence of drug-resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB, or TB) strains has led to an increasing incidence of TB. Spinal tuberculosis is the most common extrapulmonary tuberculosis. In the present study, tollip, a negative feedback regulatory factor in TLR4 signaling pathway was chosen based on previous studies on osteoarticular tuberculosis. U937 cells were transfected with recombinant lentivirus containing shRNA (RNA interference, RNAi) or overexpression vector containing Tollip gene and tested in vitro. The expression levels of Tollip and TLR4 were detected by Real-time PCR and immu

A male adult skeleton from the Han Dynasty in Shaanxi, China (202 BC-220 AD) with bone changes that possibly represent spinal tuberculosis.

Bioarchaeological data for tuberculosis (TB) have been published very sporadically in China or the rest of East Asia. To explore the history of TB in this area, 85 skeletons excavated from the Liuwei Cemetery in Shaanxi, China (202 BC-220 AD) were macroscopically examined to record TB related bone changes. These skeletons represented inhabitants of Maolingyi, an urban area that had a high population density during the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 CE). Seventeen of the 85 skeletons had spines that were well enough preserved to observe evidence of spinal disease. Among them, a male skeleton aged arou

Conservative treatment of spinal tuberculosis in a retrospective cohort study over 20-year period: high eradication rate and successful health status can be expected.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) which mainly cause lung primarily TB, can also affect the musculoskeletal system. Spine involvement occurs in 50% of the cases and neurologic deficit and kyphotic deformity may occur. The choice of conservative or surgical management of spinal TB in the absence of neurologic deficits remains controversial. The aim of the present study was to investigate the outcome and the success rate of conservative treatment and to provide evidence for the timing of treatment for spinal TB in adult patients. METHODS: Consecutive enrolled adult patients were conservatively trea

Efficacy analysis of one-stage posterior-only surgical treatment for thoracic spinal tuberculosis in the T4-6 segments with minimum 5-year follow-up.

In recent years, with the in-depth research on spinal tuberculosis, posterior surgery alone has been praised highly by more and more surgeons due to the better correction of kyphosis, better maintenance of spinal physiological curvature, smaller surgical trauma and fewer surgical complications. However, there is currently lack of relevant reports about the efficacy of posterior surgery alone in the treatment of tuberculosis in the T4-6 segments. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical study efficacy and feasibility of one-stage posterior-only surgical treatment for thoracic spinal tuberculos

METTL14 mediates the m6A methylation of miR-29a-3p, thereby activating the MAP2K6 signaling pathway and exacerbating the inflammatory response associated with spinal tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND: Spinal Tuberculosis (STB) constitutes a common form of tuberculosis and is more widespread in developing countries. Not only is it one of the principal causes of spinal deformity but also it may trigger severe neurological impairments, thereby significantly influencing the quality of life of patients. Additionally, microRNAs (miRNAs) participate in the signal transduction among macrophages through multiple means. In the earlier work of our research group, spinal tuberculosis tissues were subjected to miRNA differential analysis and sequencing. The results indicated that miR-29a-3p

Loss to follow-up among patients diagnosed with spinal tuberculosis at a tertiary hospital in Western Cape Province, South Africa: A retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Patients diagnosed with spinal tuberculosis (TB) at a major tertiary hospital in Western Cape Province, South Africa, are required to attend regular follow-up at the hospital's outpatient spine clinic and to remain on TB treatment for at least 9 months. This follow-up and lengthy treatment is intended to allow for specialist monitoring of TB treatment response and early identification of secondary complications, and to reduce the risk of recurrence. However, little is known about adherence to these recommendations. OBJECTIVES: The main objectives were to describe (i) loss to spine
