It was widely known that 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) can cause contact dermatitis. Commercially available dentine primers and dentine bonding agents that contain 2-HEMA are widely used. The purpose of this study was to investigate the cumulative irritation and delayed hypersensitivity caused by commercial dentine bonding systems when applied to the skin of guinea pigs. We have concluded that almost no dentine bonding systems cause cumulative irritation, but some commercially available dentine bonding systems may produce delayed hypersensitivity.

Seven patients with tibial fractures complicated by large infected tibial defects were treated with a two-stage protocol. In the first stage, antibiotic-impregnated polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bead chains were used to obliterate the debrided osseous defect, and a meshed porcine skin was used for temporary wound coverage. A total of 37 patients have had chin augmentation procedures with HTR-polymer implants. Indications were mandibular retrognathia in connection with dentofacial deformities in 13 and the remaining 24 had a normal occlusion. Three patients with micrognathia also had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The patients have been followed for at least one year and in 17 cases up to five years both clinically and radiographically. Cephalometric measurements of the effects and stability of augmentation showed that chin augmentation has highly predictable results, and few side-effects.

PURPOSE: The in-vitro bond strengths of a composite bonded to a nickel-chromium-beryllium alloy treated by eight bonding systems were measured after three storage conditions.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nickel-chromium-beryllium alloy samples were treated by eight commercial bonding systems including adhesive composite cements, all-purpose bonding agents, and silica-coating systems. A composite was bonded to the alloy samples. Sample groups were stored in water for 24 hours at 23 degrees C, or thermocycled, or stored for 6 months at 23 degrees C and then debonded in tension.

Sixty-six hip arthroplasties in 55 patients were reviewed to specifically study cemented versus noncemented procedures, as related to heterotopic bone formation (HBF). The authors reviews his experience during a period of six years with permanent wear gas-permeable hard contact lenses. Problems with dislocation of the lens during sleep was solved by using a diameter of 11 mm. Corneal respiration was maintained due to the oxygen permeability of the new material. A new fitting technique was developed advising daily wear for 8 days post-operatively, extended wear at the 15th day, and the final lens given after 45 days. The results obtained suggests that the technique is a very real alternative to intraocular lens implantation.
