Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation in the medical setting differs from the acute exposure received by survivors of atomic bomb blasts. Yet, atomic bomb survivors' disease and mortality outcomes have been the standard data source on the effects of ionizing radiation on humans. Therefore, the prevailing estimated risks of ionizing radiation may not apply to radiologic technologists and other medical radiation workers. Recently, there have been several case reports of cavernous angiomas appearing after radiation to the brain, typically in children. The time interval between irradiation and the detection of the cavernous angioma varied from three to nine years and the doses from 24 to 60 grays. We report the appearance of a cavernous malformation in a young girl 3 years after radiation therapy for a brain tumor.

Electromagnetic radiation from microwave ovens in Saudi Arabia was investigated by means of a field measurement survey. The survey was carried out for 106 ovens used in households and restaurants in Riyadh city. Ovens were between 1 month and 14 years old with operating power ranging from 0.5 to 4.4 kW. Dynamics of the oxidation rate of unithiol (sodium dimercaptopropansulfonate) by sodium nitrite was studied under perfect ecological conditions in Antarctica. Short-term spikes (signals) in optical density of the examined solution were found. Special features of these signals, such as the high penetrating ability, the obvious dependence of number of signals on the Sun' longitude, and the high speed of propagation (V > or = 300,000 km/s), indicate the astrophysical origin and possible gravitational causality of these signals.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of radiation therapy for adrenal metastases.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fourteen patients, 13 with primary lung carcinoma and one with primary unknown carcinoma, received radiation therapy for adrenal metastases from 1984 to 1995 at the Hyogo Medical Center for Adults. Total dose ranged from 16 Gy to 60 Gy, and fractional dose from 1.6 Gy/ Fr to 3 Gy/Fr.
