CASE SUMMARY: A domestic ferret was evaluated for a history of lethargy, anorexia, and pyrexia. Pleural effusion was detected with radiography and ultrasonography, and a diagnosis of pyothorax was made following cytologic evaluation of pleural fluid. We report an 81-year-old patient who developed severe acute respiratory failure after fiberoptic bronchoscopy and was intubated immediately. Chylothorax following blunt chest trauma is a rare event. The presence of a cloudy or milky persistent pleural effusion should suggest the possibility of its chylous origin. The diagnosis is made by analysis of the fluid obtained either from thoracentesis or tube thoracostomy. A lymphangiogram can show the site of the lesion, but computed tomography is a more recent and probably as helpful diagnostic test. A 50-year old diabetic male presented with cough, breathlessness, fever, and chest pain. Clinical and radiological evaluation revealed a right-sided pyopneumothorax. CASE PRESENTATION: A 24-year-old woman had severe OHSS as a complication of gonadotropin stimulation. The clinical picture showed enlarged ovaries, massive ascites, pleural effusion, abdominal pain, and dyspnea.
