Seropositive animals were observed in both preserved and non-preserved areas within the Caatinga biome. Opossums (Didelphis virginianus, D. albiventris) are the definitive hosts and several other species, including dogs, cats, marine mammals, and horses are intermediate or aberrant hosts. Surveillance for evidence of West Nile virus (WNV) infection in small- and medium-sized wild mammals was conducted in Iowa, USA, from May 20 … that raccoons are exposed to WNV at high rates throughout the United States. Two Virginia opossums (Didelphis virginiana) and one fox squirrel (Sciurus niger) were also seropositive for WNV. Nineteen mammals had antibodies to an undetermined flavivirus(es). In summary, we provide serologic evidence that raccoons in Iowa are commonly exposed to WNV.

BACKGROUND: Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome is a rare congenital urogenital anomaly characterised by uterus didelphys with blind hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis. Children usually have progressive pelvic pain after menarche, palpable mass due to hemihaemato(metro)colpos or pelvic inflammatory disease. The diagnosis usually requires a suspicion of this rare genitourinary syndrome.
CASE REPORTS: We present ultrasonography and MR imaging findings of this rare anomaly in two cases.

PURPOSE OF INVESTIGATION: To describe a novel approach for longitudinal vaginal septum (LVS) resection. Materials and Methods: Two cases of young girls with a uterus didelphys and a longitudinal vaginal septum. The technique consisted in grasping the vaginal septum with a laparoscopic 33-cm long bipolar cutting forceps, five-mm in diameter, and divided it to its midportion towards the two cervices.
RESULTS: In both cases, the procedure was straightforward, uncomplicated, completed within three minutes and the patients were discharged four hours later. It was associated with minimal blood loss

Uterine unification procedures were performed on 17 patients with müllerian anomalies in an attempt to achieve reproductive capability. None of the 17 patients had any living children prior to undergoing these metroplasties. Fifteen patients had a septate uterine anomaly that necessitated use of the modified Jones procedure.
