BACKGROUND: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is emerging as a leading cause of childhood blindness. The incidence of ROP is likely to increase after improvement in neonatal care unit in premature neonates. This study is conducted to determine the perinatal risk factors for ROP in preterm and low birth weight neonates.
METHODS: This is a prospective, descriptive and clinical; hospital based study. A total of 92 preterm neonates with gestational age of 36 weeks or less and birth weight of 2000 grams or less admitted in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) were screened. Detailed antenatal, perin

INTRODUCTION: Iris cysts can be primary or secondary. It is common to mistake a parasitic cyst for a benign pigment epithelial cyst. However, we report a case where a benign cyst was mistaken for a parasitic cyst.
CASE: A 50-year-old gentleman was seen in our OPD with gradual, progressive, painless diminution of vision in the right eye over past 5 Months. He was found to have a cystic lesion in the iris encroaching upon the pupil.
OBSERVATIONS: Ultrasound biomicroscopy showed features characteristic of cysticercosis. In-toto excision of the cyst was done and was sent for histopathological ex

INTRODUCTION: Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis is a chronic bilateral seasonally exacerbated allergy affecting the conjunctiva and cornea of children. As technology has advanced, newer medications have been developed for the control of the disease.
PURPOSE: To assess the effectiveness of an immunomodulator, cyclosporine, in the treatment of vernal keratoconjunctivitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty patients of moderate, severe to very severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis were selected for the study. They were given cyclosporine 0.05% eye drops in loading dose followed by gradual tapering. Symptoms a

PURPOSE: To report a case of Laryngeal Onycho Cutaneous Syndrome in a 10 year old child presenting with an ocular surface mass.
METHODS: A 10 year old boy presented in the out-patient department with a painless mass in left eye. There was history of airway obstruction requiring tracheotomy in early childhood and recurrent skin ulcerations. Aslit lamp examination revealed fleshy mass arising from the supero-nasalconjunctiva of left eye. Systemic examination revealed ulcerative lesions on cheeks and ears with dystrophic nails in hands and feet.
RESULTS: The ocular surface lesion was treated su

BACKGROUND: Sino-orbital fistulas (SOF) are a well-reported complication of orbitalexenteration and sinonasal carcinoma resection. Despite repair, however, complete fistula closure may be difficult.
CASE: A 79 -years-old man had undergone total exenteration of right orbit for spreading sqamous cell carcinoma of conjunctiva. Subsequently he developed two large sinoorbitalfistulae medially to the ethmoid sinus wall of the orbit. Post- operatively good socket hygiene was maintained but the fistulae increased in size. At 3 month follow-up, closure of the fistulae using glabellar rotation advancem

INTRODUCTION: The first line treatment for nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO) is external dacrocystorhinostomy (DCR). Following DCR, patients are required to return to Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO) six weeks postoperatively for the removal of a silicone stent. As the majority of patients travel large distances at significant cost to reach TIO, most often patients remain within Kathmandu during this six weeks interval. This places a large financial burden on patients.
METHODS: A randomized controlled trial was designed to compare patient outcomes after early (two weeks postoperat

INTRODUCTION: Patients with diabetes mellitus are at a higher risk of developing primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) as compared to non-diabetic patients.
OBJECTIVES: To determine whether there is a correlation between hyperglycemic levels and intraocular pressure (IOP) and to identify patients of Type II diabetes mellitus who are at a higher risk of developing glaucoma.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a hospital based, cross sectional study performed on patients with type II diabetes mellitus, at a tertiary health care center in Uttarakhand, India between July, 2018 and September, 2018. 318

BACKGROUND: Evisceration and nucleation are commonly performed ophthalmic surgeries for painful blind eye, disfiguring blind eye, endophthalmitis etc. After both these surgeries it is important to replace the lost volume in the orbit with implant. Implant is associated with many complications such as major discharge, exposure with discharge and implant exposure. The main surgical management of implant exposures basically primary revision or patch grafting with or without removal of the implant.
CASE: A 60 years old man presented to ophthalmic OPD with complaint of foreign body sensation and i

OBJECTIVE: To determine the surgical and visual outcomes of posteriorly dislocated lens fragments in the vitreous cavity in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
METHODS: A total of 149 eyes of 149 patients from 2013 to 2018 were included in the study. The primary cataract surgery was performed either at the base hospital and its peripheral centres or referred from elsewhere. Pars plana vasectomy and nucleus removal was performed along with implantation of intraocular lens, wherever possible. Success was defined as best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) ≥ 6/12 at 3 months follow up. Poor visual

INTRODUCTION: HIV/AIDS is a disorder which affects multiple systems in our body but ophthalmic manifestations do occur in 70-80% of patients sometime during their lifetime. Eye is affected either directly by HIV virus or indirectly through various opportunistic infections. HIV related ophthalmic manifestations are wide and can affect any part of eye from a dnexal disorders to posterior segment diseases including the optic nerve and the optic tract. This study was done to know the prevalence of ocular manifestations in the known HIV positive case & to correlate the ocular manifestations in HIV

INTRODUCTION: Ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) is the most common nonpigmented ocular surface neoplasm and it can originate from the conjunctiva and/ or corneal epithelium. Since the rate of recurrence after surgical excision is high, chemotherapeutic and immunotherapeutic agents such as interferon alpha-2b (IFN α-2b) have been used for its treatment.
OBJECTIVE: Our objective is to describe the demographic variables of patients with OSSN treated with IFN α-2b and to describe the outcomes of its use in Mexican patients, treated between 2011 and 2017 at Instituto de Oftalmología Fundaci

She had no history of trauma or fall injury. On ocular examination, visual acuity was 6/6 on both eyes and there was severe ptosis on the right eye in which eyeball remained abducted with restriction of ocular motility on all gazes. The pupil was dilated and 6mm on the right eye in room light. Posterior segment examination was normal. MRI angiography was done which revealed a right Posterior cerebral artery aneur

INTRODUCTION: Keratoconus has been known to be associated with various ocular conditions.
OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of high hyperopia, keratoconus and pigmentary retinopathy.
CASE: An eight year old boy, whose initial refractive error was high hyperopia with short axial length of 20mm, presented as bilateral advanced keratoconus with acute hydrops in one eye. Subsequently his other eye also developed hydrops. He had nystagmus and pigmentary retinopathy from his infancy. He was managed conservatively and the hydrops resolved in both the eyes leaving paracentral scar in the cornea.

INTRODUCTION: Pars plana vitrectomy in combination with intraocular tamponade with silicone oil is a standard technique in the treatment of complex retinal detachment. Although the use of silicone oil has improved the results of retinal detachment surgery, its removal is recommended due to the ocular complications related to its long term use. However, retinal redetachment can occur after silicone oil removal.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the anatomical and visual outcome after silicone oil removal (SOR) in eyes with complicated retinal detachment.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed
