PURPOSE: Long-term comparisons of frameworks at the implant or abutment level are not available, and knowledge of the clinical function of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloy frameworks is limited. Primarily, the aim of this study was to compare the 5-year clinical performance of frameworks with or without abutment connections to implants. Secondly, the outcomes of prostheses made from Co-Cr alloy with porcelain veneers to those made of commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) with acrylic veneers were compared.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The test groups comprised patients treated with screw-retained fixed p

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) are structural anomalies resulting from the failure of craniofacial prominences to fuse during embryonic development. Orthodontic treatment seeks to address these conditions by improving dentofacial balance and restoring oral function, but long-term post-treatment stability continues to pose a challenge. This systematic review included a literature search of four electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane CENTRAL) to identify observational evidence on the stability of orthodontic treatment in CLP. Six studies, comprising three cohort studies a

AIM: Rehabilitation of edentulous jaws with implant-supported overdenture has achieved a comprehensive acclamation across the globe due to compromised retention and stability in conventional complete dentures. In dentistry, low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has become a viable treatment option for lowering inflammation, easing pain, and speeding up wound healing. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of LLLT on alleviation of pain in patients with two implant-supported mandibular overdentures.
STUDY SETTING AND DESIGN: This study was carried out in the Department of Prosthodontics at Index Ins

BACKGROUND: The confection of a fixed prosthesis finds its indication in response to the patient's aesthetic and/or functional whose requirements are stronger in terms of satisfaction. This involves maintaining the stability of prosthetic reconstructions on a sufficiency long time. To achieve this, the preservation of periodontal health of the prosthetic abutments occupies a special choice.
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the periodontal health of fixed prosthesis abutment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-nine patients having fixed prosthesis in the mouth for more than one year

Combination syndrome (CS) is a pathologic condition of the stomatognathic system characterized by an edentulous maxilla with an atrophic anterior ridge, maxillary papillary hyperplasia, hypertrophic maxillary tuberosities, super-erupted mandibular anterior teeth, as well as atrophic mandibular posterior ridges. This condition can present a challenging situation to the clinician who needs to assemble evidence from all aspects of dentistry to formulate an appropriate treatment plan. One of the possible treatment choices for the fully edentulous patient with a CS is a full-arch implant-supported

PURPOSE: Implants placed in fresh extraction sites and healed sites were restored simultaneously by cross-arch provisional fixed prostheses. Clinical and radiographic parameters were recorded for up to 36 months.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Treatment with a full-arch implant prosthesis, either screw-retained or cemented, was assigned to 54 patients. A total of 676 implants were placed in either immediate extraction sites (n = 367) or in healed alveoli (n = 309), followed by placement of a one-piece provisional prosthesis. The definitive restoration was placed 3 to 6 months after implant placement.

Dental implant treatment is an indispensable portion of oral rehabilitation in patients who are to undergo reconstructive surgery following the removal of an oral cancerous lesion. However, ideal dental implant treatment cannot be achieved easily in patients who have undergone mandibular reconstruction with a free vascularized flap, usually because of the limited length, height, and width of the bone graft. Shorter implants (< 10 mm in length) therefore are occasionally used in vascularized fibula graft sites. In such cases, however, shorter implants tend to be overloaded, thereby endangering

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Removable dental prosthesis cleanliness is multifactorial, and key clinical and nonclinical factors associated with prosthesis hygiene should be identified to inform practice, particularly given the dearth of studies relating specifically to prosthetic factors and prosthesis cleanliness.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this cross-sectional clinical study was to evaluate removable dental prosthesis cleanliness among community-dwelling elders by using a semi-automated planimetric assessment and to determine factors associated with removable prosthesis cleanliness.

BACKGROUND: The authors undertook a study involving members of a dental practice-based research network to determine the outcome and factors associated with success and failure of endodontic therapy.
METHODS: Members in participating practices (practitioner-investigators [P-Is]) invited the enrollment of all patients seeking treatment in the practice who had undergone primary endodontic therapy and restoration in a permanent tooth three to five years previously. If a patient had more than one tooth so treated, the P-I selected as the index tooth the tooth treated earliest during the three- to

Owing to the increasing use of dental implants to restore edentulous conditions, clinicians often face situations where available bone volumes are reduced and need to be augmented before implant placement. This is common in the posterior maxilla, where the presence of the maxillary sinus combined with severe atrophy of the bone crest, owing to long-standing edentulism or pathological conditions, might preclude implant placement. Techniques to augment the sinus floor in combination with several grafting materials are commonly used to restore adequate volumes for implantation. Recent studies hav

The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the survival rate of implants, abutment teeth, and suprastructures along with the management of the complications for complete-arch, semipermanent cemented tooth-implant-supported restorations in 44 maxillae. Permanent cemented copings protect the prepared teeth from caries. The metal-ceramic fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) were cemented onto copings and implant abutments using acryl-urethane cement. Data were assessed via patient records and a final clinical examination. Six years after cementation, no implant or restoration had failed. After

OBJECTIVE: To determine if moderate to severe dementia has an effect on the oral health of individuals resident in nursing homes.
BACKGROUND: A significant proportion of the elderly population lives in nursing homes and suffers from varying degrees of dementia. Dementia might affect an individual's ability to implement oral care. Previous work in this area has focused on individuals with mild dementia living in the community setting.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two matched cohorts of subjects resident in four nursing homes in Cheshire were recruited (n=135). One cohort's subjects were deemed to ha
