Symptoms can predict COVID-19 pneumonia in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants.

Pneumonia is a key criterion for the severity of COVID-19. Whether COVID-19 symptoms are indicators of pneumonia in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants is unclear. 6200 non-hospitalized patients with COVID-19 from three sites in three hospitals were divided into three cohorts: Cohort 1 (n = 1971, Outpatient Department), Cohort 2 (n = 1073, Emergency Department), and Cohort 3 (n = 3156, Fever Clinic). The association of COVID-19 symptoms with pneumonia in the patients were analysed. In Cohort 1, dry cough, expectoration, fever, muscle or body aches, sore throat, headache or dizzi

Reliability of field- and laboratory-based assessments of health-related fitness in preschool-aged children.

OBJECTIVES: Reliable measurements of health-related fitness-cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, body composition, and flexibility-are imperative for understanding and tracking health-related fitness from the preschool age. This study aimed to examine the test-retest reliability of field-based (i.e., sit and reach [standard and back-saver], standing long jump, grip strength); and laboratory-based (i.e., Bruce Protocol Treadmill Test, Wingate Anaerobic Test) assessments of health-related fitness in preschool aged children (4-5 years). METHODS: Forty-two typically

Active recovery vs hot- or cold-water immersion for repeated sprint ability after a strenuous exercise training session in elite skaters.

This study compared the acute effects of three recovery methods: active recovery (AR), hot- and cold-water immersion (HWI and CWI, respectively), used between two training sessions in elite athletes. Twelve national-team skaters (7 males, 5 females) completed three trials according to a randomized cross-over study. Fifteen minutes after an exhaustive ice-skating training session, participants underwent 20 min of HWI (41.1 ± 0.5°C), 15 min of CWI (12.1 ± 0.7°C) or 15 min of active recovery (AR). After 1 h 30 min of the first exercise, they performed a repeated-sprint cycling session. Average po

How to capture activities of daily living in myotonic dystrophy type 2?

Myotonic dystrophy type 2 (DM2) lacks validated patients´ reported outcomes (PROs). This represents a limit for monitoring disease progression and perceived efficacy of symptomatic treatments. Our aim was to investigate whether PROs for activities of daily living designed for other neuromuscular diseases could be used in DM2. Sixty-six DM2 patients completed the following PROs: DM1-Activ-c, Rasch-built Pompe-specific activity (R-PAct) scale, McGill-pain questionnaire, fatigue and daytime sleepiness scale and Beck depression inventory (BDI-II). Clinical data and motor outcome measures (6-minute
